Susan, I love this post! I've had any number of life-altering events that were, as you described, maybe not that big a deal, but they changed the course of my life for whatever reason. I was divorced when I was only 21, married again at 22 and a mother at 23--all of those were life-changing experiences. When I was diagnosed with MS at 35 I had another huge switch in my "plans." (Love that saying--life is what happens when you're making plans!)

I think of all of those events as roadblocks that make you take another route to get where you're going, so my route's been somewhat convoluted over the years, but I wouldn't change a single twist or turn. Congrats on making lemonade out of your own lemons--I think success is all the sweater when the route to find it isn't a straight line.

Wow, Mia, congratulations. Yes, life is terminal. That's the one thing we can all be sure of, isn't it? We should bear that in mind every day, in the way we choose to live our lives.

I'm a cancer survivor, Susan, so yes, I know what life-changing event means. But anything that makes you delve into your relationships with the people you love, to strengthen your faith, and see the world with fresh eyes does have an upside.

Life is terminal. How we live it is open to endless delightful possiblities. And we get to choose.

I have the great privilidge of being Mia's critique partner. Let me tell you, no purple prose in her work, ever. Just some of the best, clear concise writing I've ever read.

I can't wait for touch of a thief. I loved that story, but didn't have a chance to get to the end due to other things getting in the way. I'm buying it as soon as it comes out!

My muse seems to sit and wait for the most impossilbe time to show up. Always when I'm on my way to somewhere or in the shower, never when I'm sitting in front of the computer. When I sit in front of a blank screen, she's far, far away, probably laughing at me. I have to cary pieces of paper around with me so I can scribble down what she gives me no matter where I am and then labor alone in front of the screen.

I hear you, Barb. Everytime I see that old black-and-white snippet of FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, I alwasy remember how my bikini bottom filled with seaweed and salt when I was on the beach in Florida.

No, the DH and I weren't trying a reenactment in the surf. I was playing with the kids making sure they weren't carried off in the waves.

Hi Mia,
I liked your post. The plainer the terms the better, for me. What causes me to cringe is giving me details about the dirty, muddy place two lovers are in, then being specific anout where certain body parts go--too microbial.

 Oh, dear, Toni Sue. I'm guilty of occasional moists, damps and wets in my stories. It seems to work so much better than dessicated or dry.

However, I've never committed a "cream." That always suggests an infection of some sort to me.
