A Little Over A Year…

I wrote my very first post for the Brava Blog last May–and, wow, time does fly! Then, I was introducing myself as the new girl and saying how thrilled I was to be with Brava.

Well, I’m still thrilled. I’m thrilled–and I now have two Brava releases on the shelves. That is just so cool–sometimes, I still can’t believe it! HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT, my single title paranormal release, is available, and, as of yesterday, WHEN HE WAS BAD is also waiting inside a bookstore near you. (WHEN HE WAS BAD is my paranormal anthology with the super talented Shelly Laurenston).

A book teaser for WHEN HE WAS BAD is up and running–if you’d like to take a peek, just click here. (And I say “teaser” because it’s not a full-on trailer, more of a, well, tease.)

A big thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome here at Brava over the last year!

Less Than a Week…and a Contest!!

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008
Cynthia Eden Icon

I now have less than a week until my first Kensington Brava release, HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT, hits stores shelves. And, um, yeah, I can’t wait. :-)

Today, I thought I’d do a bit of early celebrating by giving away an autographed copy of HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT to one commenter. Wanna win? Just leave me a comment about your all time favorite character. I’ll be back on Saturday to announce the winner.

Dr. Emily Drake, the heroine of HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT, was one of my absolute favorite characters to write. The woman has a hell of a painful past, but she’s overcome her childhood and is now one of the most respected psychologists in Atlanta. Of course, Emily isn’t your typical therapist. She only treats paranormal patients (and that’s where my story, or her story begins).

And, as part of my celebration, I thought I’d post an excerpt from HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT:

* * *

“How much do you know?”

Emily swallowed and tried to figure out just how much she should reveal.

His hold tightened around her.

He was the one sitting down, the one forced to look up at her, but Emily had the feeling she was the one in the vulnerable position. “I-I know you aren’t human.” Her voice came out softer, huskier than she’d intended.

She hoped Colin would leave it at that. Hoped he wouldn’t probe any deeper.

“Ah, baby, I already knew that.”

She tried to tug her hand free, but his grip was unbreakable.

“You’re the Monster Doctor, the one all the local ghouls go to see.” A faint trace of amusement underscored his words. But his eyes were watchful, intense, showing no echo of humor.

Her jaw clenched. “Let go of my hand.”

He smiled at her, and his fingers fell away from her wrist.

Emily immediately sprang across the room, putting several feet between them. Nice, protective space. “Look, if you aren’t here to discuss the case, then I want you to leave.” She turned her back on him, heading toward the front door.

“How do you do it?”

His words stopped her.

“How do you tell who is human and who isn’t?”

She heard the soft rustle of the sofa cushions as he rose.

“That’s a pretty interesting talent you’ve got there. And I’m just dying to know exactly how you do it.”

Emily cast a longing glance toward the front door. “I’m afraid you’re just going to have to live with your curiosity, Detective.” Because she sure as hell wasn’t going to reveal her innermost secrets to a stranger. Yep, letting the guy inside had been a definite mistake.

“Hmmm.” His breath blew against the nape of her neck. Emily jumped, startled to find him so close to her. The guy hadn’t made a sound when he’d crossed the room.

“I’d like to see your hair down,” he muttered, and his fingers brushed against the bun she’d yet to unwind.

She jerked away from him. “And I’d like to see you leave. Guess which one of us is about to get her wish?”

His hard lips curved into a smile, a smile with a hint of real warmth. “Tough lady, aren’t you?”

She’d had to be.

His smile slowly faded. “But trust me, I’m a hell of a lot tougher than you could ever dream of being.” And in a flash, he had her pinned against the wall. His strong, hard body pressed against her, his muscular thighs pushed between hers, shoving up her skirt, and his right hand locked around her wrists as he forced them against the wall over her head.

Her breath left her body in a startled gasp.

“Now let’s try this again,” he growled. “Just how much do you know about me?”

My First Brava–Excerpt and ARC

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

In a little over two months (on April 29th), my first Brava release will hit stores shelves. I can’t wait to walk into my local Books-a-Million and see HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT on the shelves. I’m sure my ear-splitting screams of excitement will frighten the sales clerks.

Oh, yeah, I’m counting down the days… hotter-after-midnightsmall.jpg

Until then, I thought I’d post an excerpt of my story–and offer commenters a chance to win an ARC of HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT.

So, here’s my excerpt:

ARC Giveaway and My Brava Experience

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008
Cynthia Eden Icon

I still consider myself to be one of the “new” girls here at Brava. My first novel, HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT, is scheduled for a May 2008 release. When I first made my sale to Brava (I learned the good news in early April of 2007), well, May 08 seemed very, very far away.

A few days ago, I received the ARCs for my story.

And, now, May 2008 sure doesn’t seem very far away at all! Before I know it, my book is going to be on store shelves. That’s wonderful–and so scary!

But, you don’t have to wait until May to read my story. Leave me a comment–tell me about a moment in your life that’s produced that weird mixture of fear and joy–and, on January 30th, I’ll come back and pick one commenter to receive an autographed ARC. (I’ll list the winner’s name in the comments sections of this post.)

And, in case you’re curious, here’s the back cover blurb for my tale:

Dr. Emily Drake’s patients tend to be a little unusual. Instead of the typical therapist’s caseload of midlife crises and mother fixations, Emily treats vampires with blood phobias and sex-demons looking for meaningful relationships. But her gift for recognizing and healing the Other—those creatures of the night that most humans don’t even know exist—requires a few house rules. First: Never trust a shifter. Especially not one like Detective Colin Gyth whose gold-flecked eyes and predatory air make Emily realize how much she’s been longing to lose control…

Colin can’t believe the doctor he’s been assigned to work with on the Night Butcher murder investigation is the one person who could expose his true identity as a wolf shifter. Smart, sexy, and stubborn as hell, Emily brings out the alpha male in Colin, unleashing a wild, heady desire that takes them both over the edge.

But in the shadows, the Night Butcher waits…eager to spill Emily’s blood and taste her terror. And he’ll use any means to destroy her, including the one person she has grown to trust.

*************************************************************************************************

I had an absolutely wonderful time writing this book. I love paranormal characters. Love twisting old legends and modernizing myths.

And I also really like writing about characters who have a deep darkness inside of them. What can I say? I guess I’m a lover of the bad boy. (Or, in this case, monster).

Before I end this post, I also wanted to offer my congratulations to all the finalists in the Brava Contest. There are some great stories posted, and, if you haven’t voted, hurry and pick your favorites!
