ANGEL IN CHAINS–New Release!

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012
Cynthia Eden Icon

Update: The winner of the gift certificate is…Allison W. Congrats, Allison! And thanks to everyone for sharing their paranormal romance love with me. Have a great weekend!

When a new book releases, I’m always both very excited (Yay!! It’s out in the wild!) and very nervous (oh…I hope readers enjoy it!). Yesterday was the release day for my latest Kensington Brava, ANGEL IN CHAINS, so I was definitely feeling that mix of excitement and nervousness all day.

I loved writing ANGEL IN CHAINS–the hero, Az, was more than a bit wicked in my the first two Fallen books (ANGEL OF DARKNESS and ANGEL BETRAYED). I wanted to keep him on the wicked side, but I also wanted to show that he could be more than just the bad guy.

Here’s the blurb for ANGEL IN CHAINS:

As a fallen Angel of Death, Azrael is cursed to walk the earth alone in search of redemption. One night, as he wanders the streets of New Orleans, he discovers a woman surrounded by panther shifters. No longer able to contain the anger simmering within, Az summons his dark powers and attacks, determined to protect this innocent human from certain death.

Only Jade Pierce is no delicate flower. She’s spent years learning to survive and fight the evil forces sent by her ex-lover who refuses to let her go. But after seeing Az in action, she figures she could use a little supernatural help. And so she plans a course of seduction guaranteed to arouse his interest and his angelic passions…

To celebrate the release of ANGEL IN CHAINS, I’m going to give one commenter a $10 Amazon.com gift card. Just tell me…why do you like paranormal romances? What draws you to these stories? The giveaway will stay open until noon on Friday, and then I’ll pick one random commenter to win.

Good luck!

Running Away with my DH

Update: Congrats to Janie McGaugh! Her name was picked in the random drawing and she’ll receive Mia’s TOUCH OF A LADY in her choice of Kindle or Nook formats!

This weekend, the DH and I are planning a getaway to a lake resort in northern Minnesota.  Since we honeymooned in the north woods, the crisp pine-scented air and the cries of loons say ‘young love’ to me. We’re looking forward to walking the lake shore, enjoying the fall colors and cuddling by the fire.

Minnesota Lake

Of course, we’re joining his siblings at this resort so part of the time will be spent with others. My sister-in-law has arranged for a spa day for the girls. I have no clue what the guys will be doing while we’re being pampered. I suspect football will feature prominently.

Spa Day

But the DH and I have our own plans to slip away from the group for some ‘alone time.’

In a way, this weekend reminds me of the Georgian house party that’s the setting for TOUCH OF A LADY. My hero Tristan has a devil of a time finding ways to be alone with Delphinia, the girl who’s captured his heart, but with a bit of skullduggery, he manages some inventive trysting places–like a fortune teller’s tent, a large wardrobe, and a grotto in the center of a maze. Love is where you find it!

THE GIVEAWAY!

If you’d like a little armchair getaway this weekend, I’m offering a chance to win a Kindle or Nook version of TOUCH OF A LADY. the prequel to my Touch of Seduction series, to a randomly selected commenter.

All you have to do is share your favorite getaway spot. It doesn’t even have to be someplace you’ve been. It can be a dream getaway, some place you’d like to go.

Looking forward to hearing from YOU!

Werewolves: Sexy, Scary, or Both?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012
Cynthia Eden Icon

Update: The winner of HOWL FOR IT is…Stacey Marin! Congrats!

Do you like werewolves? Do you eagerly tune in to watch True Blood each week because you love Alcide? Do you think it’s just awesome when he changes into a beast? (Or changes back into the form of a man and–whoops–his clothes are gone?) Do you remember the old Howling movies? The ones that showed us that werewolves can be horrible monsters that destory all those who are unlucky enough to get near them?

Werewolves…they can sexy or they can be scary. And, sometimes, I think they can be both.

My contribution to the HOWL FOR IT anthology is a story called, “Wed or Dead.” In this story, my hero is a werewolf. (Right, you saw that coming, didn’t you?) I wanted him to be sexy, but I also wanted Gage to have a rough, dangerous edge. When I think about werewolves, I always enjoy that rough edge that comes with them. Werewolves aren’t controlled. They’re men, but they’re also beasts. And, at any moment, that beast side may just break through the man’s control.

One of my favorite werewolf movies is Cursed with Joshua Jackson. In this movie, (spoiler!!!! Don’t read ahead if you want to watch the movie!), Joshua plays a character that is both sexy and scary. Sure, his scary side may take over at times, but I love the mix that is shown in his character.

Sexy.

Scary.

Both?

Just how do you like your werewolves? Tell me, and you could win a copy of HOWL FOR IT. I will be back on Thursday at noon (Central time) to randomly pick the winner.

Thanks for checking out my post!

Best,

Cynthia Eden

vampire prize pack giveaway!

Heidi Betts Icon

As promised, I’ve finally gotten a stack of fabulous cover flats for the upcoming paperback release of MUST LOVE VAMPIRES (September 2012) & I’m ready to give them away!

But not just cover flats…  I’m making this an extra-special Vampire Prize Pack Giveaway!  That means that in addition to a signed MUST LOVE VAMPIRES cover flat, you’ll also get a pack of “I Heart Vampires” sticky notes & some frightfully delicious vampire bite chocolate candies.  (While supplies last, of course. ;) )

Photobucket

(FYI, I know the chocolates are delicious because as I was putting together this picture for today’s post, I noticed that the foil was all wonky on one of them. And I couldn’t give someone defective candy, could I?   No! So I stepped up. Stepped up & ate it myself…because that’s the kind of selfless, giving author I am. And it was yummy. Frankly, you’re lucky I haven’t already eaten them all! )

So who wants candy & a bunch of other terrific goodies?

U.S. & Canadian residents only, please.  But simply contact me via my website with your name & address, & I’ll pop one of these cute little prize packs in the mail to you.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for September, when more than just the cover of MUST LOVE VAMPIRES will be available.

Celebrating Hunted with a Giveaway

Friday, June 1st, 2012
Rebecca Zanetti Icon

UPDATE:  Congrats to Whitney for winning!

Let’s have some fun and give away a copy of Hunted.  I’ll draw a name Sunday.

Spring is here!  Hunted had a great week this week, and I’d like to share.  First, Hunted was named the May Book of the Month at Grave Tells.  This is a huge honor, and I’m very humbled by it.  Also, in the same month, the book won second place for “Reader’s Choice.”  Very exciting.

Then, my sister’s mother-in-law called her and said that Hunted is noted in Woman’s World Magazine.  Right next to a picture of Kristen Stewart in her new movie.  This was unexpected and so very exciting!  Yes, I bought a couple of copies and even scanned in the page to show here.

Other than that, things have been pretty normal for the beginning of spring.  Though  my husband was asked at the bank the other day if my books represent our sex life.  He’s not a shy guy, but it took him aback a little bit.  (Of course, I laughed my head off when he told me later).  And apparently, he gets asked stuff like that a lot.  With a wink, wink…and a nudge, nudge, of course.

Nobody asks me those questions.

In fact, I’m a small town girl …and nobody looks at me differently now that the sensual Brava books are out.  However, they do look at my husband differently.  Isn’t that interesting?  It could be because he’s a six-foot-five Italian…and many of my heroes are over six feet tall with dark hair and eyes.  Hmmmm.

But it’s not like anybody has ever asked him if he’s a vampire.  (BTW, he isn’t.)

So, my week has been full of fun and humor.  I hope yours has as well.  How about we have a giveaway for one copy of Hunted to a randomly chosen commenter here?  I’ll choose at the end of the weekend.  Feel free to just comment on anything.  If you’d like a prompt:  How was your week?

Why I Love Fallen Angels

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012
Cynthia Eden Icon

Update: The winner of ANGEL BETRAYED is…Patricia K. Congrats!!
Five Reasons I Love Fallen Angels…

Okay, yes, I’m not exactly unbiased here since I have a whole series about fallen angels (and the next book in this series–ANGEL BETRAYED–will be out on 6/26!), but hey, I’m just sharing the angel love. ;) So why do I enjoy the fallen angels so much?

1. They aren’t perfect. No, if they were perfect, well, they wouldn’t be *fallen* angels, now, would they? These guys understand sin, and they know all about the price of temptation.

2. Wings. Sure, in my world, a fallen angel’s wings burn away when the angel plummets from heaven, but I’ve always thought it would be cool to see a guy who could fly. Ahem, that may be my superman complex kicking in.

3. They can kick ass. They’re immortal warriors, how can they possibly fear humans or vampires or werewolves? They don’t fear. Everyone—everything—else fears them. To me, that’s just tough and awesome all at once.

4. Despite all of their power, they have a weakness. Emotion. Fallen angels are hungry to taste the emotions of humans. Can you imagine what it would be like to live and feel nothing? Then, what if one day…you got hit with every single emotion out there? Talk about a rush. That rush might just be enough to make a man go insane…or enough to shatter the control of a fallen angel.

5. They smell good. ;) Seriously. During my angel research, I came across many references indicating that when an angel was near, folks reported smelling the sweet scent of flowers. (Of course, I had to incorporate this bit of lore into my Fallen books.) So maybe the next time you catch that scent in the air…just maybe it will mean that you aren’t alone. Maybe an angel will be close to you…

What do you think about angels? Particularly the fallen sort? Share! I’ll send an autographed copy of ANGEL BETRAYED to one randomly selected commenter.

Random.org  chose Kyle Code as the winner.  Congrats!

Hi all!  Happy Friday!  First, I’d like to remind everyone that Hunted releases this month on April 24th.  Hunted is the third book in the Dark Protector series and features Connlan Kayrs, the ultimate vampire soldier, and Moira Dunne, a wicked-hot witch from Ireland.  The two mated a century ago (after a wild, crazy night), and Conn gave Moira one hundred years to train as a witch and learn her powers.  Time is up, and Conn heads across the ocean to bring his witch home.  She, ah, doesn’t quite fall in line.

I’ve been working hard writing the fifth book in the Dark Protector Series.  This book features Kane Kayrs, the smartest and most logical vampire on the planet, and his possible mate, a free-spirited eco-friendly human woman who has no idea the power she holds to fight demons.  She’s a pacifist, for goodness sakes.  :)

During the last month, I’ve spent time writing in several airports and different cities across the USA.  First, twenty of us gals ventured to Las Vegas to celebrate our friend’s 40th birthday.  Now, you take twenty moms and give them a weekend away from work, baseketball games, and laundry?  Yes.  We spent time at a hospital, time at several pools that weren’t with our hotel, and time in those underground rooms where a casino takes a troublemaker.  I truly don’t know how many times I said, “I’m not licensed to practice law in Nevada.  Behave.”  A few of us also gambled…and we attended the Thunder Down Under show.  Very interesting.

After Nevada, I headed across the country to New Orleans.  I absolutely love that city.  The FF&P conference was held there, and I gave a workshop about craft blunders.  I also went on a ghost/vampire tour of the city that was beyond cool.  And creepy.  I had so many ideas spinning through my head for stories afterwards!  But I did get a chance to write while soaking up the energy of the city.  In fact, there are a couple scenes in Hunted set in New Orleans!  What’s funny is that I turned that book in a year ago.

Then my entire family (husband and kids, parents, sisters and their families) headed for Maui for spring break.  There were fifteen of us, and we had a ball.  I wrote at the pool, I wrote at the beach, and I tried very unsuccessfully to write on a boat while whale watching.  Don’t write on a boat while whale watching if you have the slightest inclination to get sea sick.  Watch the whales.  I quickly set the computer aside and watched whales, feeling just fine by the end of the trip.  Isn’t the picture nice?

So, now I’m gearing up to promote Hunted.

To celebrate the release of Hunted on April 24th of this month, how about we do a giveaway of either Fated or Claimed (the first two books in the series)?  Just leave a comment for a chance to win – I’ll leave the contest open through the weekend.  Have you been on any fun vacations lately?  If not, where would you like to go?

Three pretty dragons looking for a home…

I received the most WONDERMOUS tweet the other day. A friend sent me a picture of ETERNITY’S MARKsitting on a shelf at Barnes & Noble. Yes. I “squeed” with joy and surprise because I wasn’t expecting my “baby” to debut until March 27th. Did I ever tell you that “confused” is my middle name? Anyway, I think a celebratory contest is definitely in order. Don’t you?

Here’s the uber-simple details:

1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY
2. Contest begins as soon as this blog post goes LIVE (Thursday, March 1, 2012 was the date of the original post on my blog) and will run until midnight on Saturday, March 31, 2012.
3. On April 1, 2012, three lucky names will be drawn from the entries.
4. One winner will be the lucky recipient of the lovely hand-crafted cuff bracelet pictured from two different angels below.
5. One winner will receive the eye-catching dragon agate disc necklace. (see this gorgeous necklace below)
6. One winner will receive the dragon spoon w/oriental beads necklace.

All you have to do to enter into the drawing for one of these unique pieces of jewelry is this:

Take a picture of yourself holding a copy of ETERNITY’S MARK and either tweet it to me  or post it on my Facebook page and tell me where you found it. If you don’t like those social networks, email the photo to maeve@maevegreyson.com  and tell me where it was spotted.

Here’s my corners of cyberspace:

Twitter: @maevegreyson
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/maeve.greyson.page

If you do choose email, please let me know if it’s okay to post your picture and your first name on my Facebook page. If you’d rather not, no problem. You will still be entered into the drawing.

Oh! I almost forgot. When I first announced this contest on my blog, a very wise reader asked, “What about us Kindle users?”

I’d NEVER wish to leave anyone out so here’s what the digital folks who don’t peruse the brick and mortar book stores need to do:

Hop on over to ETERNITY’S MARK on Amazon and click the little “like” button right beneath the title. If you’ve got a minute, feel free to scroll down and click on “agree with the tags” too. If not – no worries! All you need to do now is shoot me an email at the above email addy. Put ETERNITY’S MARK in the subject line and list just ONE of the tags that customers have tagged onto ETERNITY’S MARK.

Barnes & Noble doesn’t appear to have a “like” or tagging process on their site. So, Nook readers just send me the link to ETERNITY’S MARK on B&N in an email and you’ll be entered too.

Or…the EASIEST way to enter? Just click this link and follow my newsletter:

http://www.maevegreyson.com/contact.html#newsletter .

Those who are already following my newsletter are automatically entered. Would you like to join them? ;-)

I think that’s about it – Let the games begin!~

Breaking the Rules

Keep Following the Rules

Sign near the Imperial Palace Gardens, Tokyo

I just returned from a week long trip to Japan. My DH had to go on business and I tagged along for pleasure! There are so many amazing things to see there and I’m sharing some of them on my blog and later this week on Facebook. But today, I’d like to talk a bit about this sign I saw near the Imperial Palace Gardens. I think it really sums up the Japanese way of looking at things.

Every society has a collection of rules, either spelled out or tacitly accepted, that helps things run smoothly. For example, in Japan people drive on the left hand side of the road just like the Brits. Which means they also queue and walk on the left as well. I can’t tell you how many times I caught myself walking into oncoming foot traffic because I automatically drifted to the “right” American side of the walk way.

Money does not literally change hands there. It took me a bit to notice that there is always a little tray by every cash register where I was expected to place my payment and where the sales person would place my change. (However if I was having trouble figuring out the money, it was perfectly safe for me to hold out a handful of change and the vendor would take out only what was needed to complete the transaction. The Japanese are honest to a fault.)

If however, someone handed me something, it would be with two hands, indicating their total attention to me. It would have been bad manners for me to accept it with one hand only, but I really had to concentrate in order to make myself use both hands.

Being “others-centric” seems to be the Japanese way. No one pushes to the head of a queue. Everyone defers to those around them. And they do it with a smile and a bow. They follow the rules. In a city of 12 million souls, it’s almost a requirement in order to have peaceful coexistence.

Touch of a Rogue

Click to order!

Every society has their own rules and while following them leads to harmonious life, it makes for very boring fiction. Which is why my characters tend to be rule breakers big time. Take my heroine Lady Julianne Cambourne from Touch of a Rogue, for example. She’s a widowed countess, but she refuses to come to heel when her step-son tries to marry her off to one of his friends. If she were a “pattern” sort of lady (“pattern” being a huge compliment during the Victorian era because it indicated a thorough conformation to the expected course of action) she’d accept the man the new earl wants her to wed. Tired of living under a man’s thumb, Julianne doesn’t want to give up the freedom of widowhood and she’s determined to do what’s necessary in order to maintain her independence.

This is a sentiment my hero Jacob Preston applauds until he realizes he loves her and wants her to surrender her widow’s weeds…to HIM! For a peek at how Jacob and Julianne met, click here for an excerpt. While you’re on my website be sure to enter my contest. I’m giving away a complete set of my print backlist there.

Today, I’d like to offer a copy of Touch of a Rogue to a commenter here. Share a time when you broke the rules. Share a rule you find impossible to follow. Share a time when following the rules was the absolutely right thing to do. Whatever you leave for a comment will enter you in the drawing. Good luck!
