I can’t believe it’s been almost exactly 4 years since I received THE CALL from editor Kate Duffy asking me to write 3 books for Brava. I was about to leave on a trip to the UK and had many misconceptions about what exactly made a romance novel a Brava romance and Kate was ready, willing and able to explain it all to me.
“In a regular historical romance, for example,” she said, “will they or won’t they is the major conflict between them. In a Brava historical romance, they will,” she explained, “and they will frequently and with strident enthusiasm!” I laughed and she continued. “So, if sex is a given, where is the emotional conflict? Where is the strength of the story?”
We spent time talking about how she saw my 3 stories, a mix of historical, paranormals, Scottish, Viking, sexy romances fitting into Brava. She even sent me copies
of what she thought were some of the strongest historicals in the line to convince me that I could write my stories for her. LOL….Of course, I agreed because I’d always wanted to write with Kate and I have to say the experience was as good as I’d hoped.
When the first one was about to come out, Kate (and Megan) offered me the chance to be in an anthology with legendary historical author (* she footnotes her books!*) Susan Johnson and I jumped at that chance. I had the opportunity to work with Megan because Kate had taken ill by then. By the time A STORM OF PASSION was released, Kate was gone.
But, I was fortunate because Alicia came to Kensington and I had the chance to work with yet another wonderful editor (who loves to edit!) on the second and third books. Alicia was 180 degree difference in editing style but I learned so much from working with her. She guided me through A STORM OF PLEASURE and MISTRESS OF THE STORM.
The third book was completed and released in July 2011 bringing my STORM trilogy (plus connected novella) to a close.
Since I have no other Brava releases in the works, I’m saying farewell to the Brava Authors website and blog. I wanted to thank all my readers who have supported me in this new and challenging endeavor as I pushed my own boundaries and comfort levels and wrote this series of dark, steamy stories. I loved having the opportunity to blend my love of history and fascination with the Fae and be able to set it when the Vikings still ruled much of Scotland. Brava (and Kate and Alicia) gave me that chance.
So, I hope you’ll still keep in touch with me — I’m over on Facebook and still writing historical romances. Stop by my website to see what I’m doing and where I’ll be….and what I’m working on. Happy Reading to all of you and best wishes to the best authors around — the Brava Authors!
