ANGEL IN CHAINS–New Release!

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012
Cynthia Eden Icon

Update: The winner of the gift certificate is…Allison W. Congrats, Allison! And thanks to everyone for sharing their paranormal romance love with me. Have a great weekend!

When a new book releases, I’m always both very excited (Yay!! It’s out in the wild!) and very nervous (oh…I hope readers enjoy it!). Yesterday was the release day for my latest Kensington Brava, ANGEL IN CHAINS, so I was definitely feeling that mix of excitement and nervousness all day.

I loved writing ANGEL IN CHAINS–the hero, Az, was more than a bit wicked in my the first two Fallen books (ANGEL OF DARKNESS and ANGEL BETRAYED). I wanted to keep him on the wicked side, but I also wanted to show that he could be more than just the bad guy.

Here’s the blurb for ANGEL IN CHAINS:

As a fallen Angel of Death, Azrael is cursed to walk the earth alone in search of redemption. One night, as he wanders the streets of New Orleans, he discovers a woman surrounded by panther shifters. No longer able to contain the anger simmering within, Az summons his dark powers and attacks, determined to protect this innocent human from certain death.

Only Jade Pierce is no delicate flower. She’s spent years learning to survive and fight the evil forces sent by her ex-lover who refuses to let her go. But after seeing Az in action, she figures she could use a little supernatural help. And so she plans a course of seduction guaranteed to arouse his interest and his angelic passions…

***

To celebrate the release of ANGEL IN CHAINS, I’m going to give one commenter a $10 Amazon.com gift card. Just tell me…why do you like paranormal romances? What draws you to these stories? The giveaway will stay open until noon on Friday, and then I’ll pick one random commenter to win.

Good luck!

Werewolves: Sexy, Scary, or Both?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012
Cynthia Eden Icon

Update: The winner of HOWL FOR IT is…Stacey Marin! Congrats!

Do you like werewolves? Do you eagerly tune in to watch True Blood each week because you love Alcide? Do you think it’s just awesome when he changes into a beast? (Or changes back into the form of a man and–whoops–his clothes are gone?) Do you remember the old Howling movies? The ones that showed us that werewolves can be horrible monsters that destory all those who are unlucky enough to get near them?

Werewolves…they can sexy or they can be scary. And, sometimes, I think they can be both.

My contribution to the HOWL FOR IT anthology is a story called, “Wed or Dead.” In this story, my hero is a werewolf. (Right, you saw that coming, didn’t you?) I wanted him to be sexy, but I also wanted Gage to have a rough, dangerous edge. When I think about werewolves, I always enjoy that rough edge that comes with them. Werewolves aren’t controlled. They’re men, but they’re also beasts. And, at any moment, that beast side may just break through the man’s control.

One of my favorite werewolf movies is Cursed with Joshua Jackson. In this movie, (spoiler!!!! Don’t read ahead if you want to watch the movie!), Joshua plays a character that is both sexy and scary. Sure, his scary side may take over at times, but I love the mix that is shown in his character.

Sexy.

Scary.

Both?

Just how do you like your werewolves? Tell me, and you could win a copy of HOWL FOR IT. I will be back on Thursday at noon (Central time) to randomly pick the winner.

Thanks for checking out my post!

Best,

Cynthia Eden

When A Bad Guy Becomes Good (Semi-Good?)

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012
Cynthia Eden Icon

Update: The gift card winner is…bn100!

When he first appeared in ANGEL OF DARKNESS, Sammael (Sam) wasn’t exactly the guy riding to the rescue on a white horse. Sam was a fallen angel, a guy who had fallen very, very far from grace. He knew all about sin, and Sam wasn’t afraid to kill in order to get what he wanted.

Actually, Sam wasn’t afraid of anything.

While I wrote ANGEL OF DARKNESS, I really became interested in Sam’s character. I wondered what would happen if he got to be the “hero” in his own tale.

I knew turning Sam into a hero would be a tricky business, but I’ll just go ahead and confess…my favorite heroes to write? They’re the bad guys. The men that, if they aren’t careful, could cross that line into evil-land. They’re dangerous, they’re powerful, and, in the right, desperate situation, they can also be just the men that my heroines need.

And when they are paired with their heroines, these men become more. More than just bad boys. More than just guys with a darkness growing inside. They can show strength. Courage. They can love.

But loving isn’t easy for them.

So Sam…I didn’t give him an easy time of it when I wrote his story (ANGEL BETRAYED). I forced his character to fight for everything that he wanted. After all, what’s a happy ending worth if you don’t have to fight for it?

In ANGEL BETRAYED, Sam has the fight of his life waiting for him. Lucky for Sam, the angel is one hell of a fighter.

Thanks for checking out my post! And, hey, how about a prize? I just talked about bad guys…but why don’t you tell me about your favorite “bad” girl/heroine? I’ll pick one commenter to win a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card. Good luck!

Why I Love Fallen Angels

Update: The winner of ANGEL BETRAYED is…Patricia K. Congrats!!
Five Reasons I Love Fallen Angels…

Okay, yes, I’m not exactly unbiased here since I have a whole series about fallen angels (and the next book in this series–ANGEL BETRAYED–will be out on 6/26!), but hey, I’m just sharing the angel love. ;) So why do I enjoy the fallen angels so much?

1. They aren’t perfect. No, if they were perfect, well, they wouldn’t be *fallen* angels, now, would they? These guys understand sin, and they know all about the price of temptation.

2. Wings. Sure, in my world, a fallen angel’s wings burn away when the angel plummets from heaven, but I’ve always thought it would be cool to see a guy who could fly. Ahem, that may be my superman complex kicking in.

3. They can kick ass. They’re immortal warriors, how can they possibly fear humans or vampires or werewolves? They don’t fear. Everyone—everything—else fears them. To me, that’s just tough and awesome all at once.

4. Despite all of their power, they have a weakness. Emotion. Fallen angels are hungry to taste the emotions of humans. Can you imagine what it would be like to live and feel nothing? Then, what if one day…you got hit with every single emotion out there? Talk about a rush. That rush might just be enough to make a man go insane…or enough to shatter the control of a fallen angel.

5. They smell good. ;) Seriously. During my angel research, I came across many references indicating that when an angel was near, folks reported smelling the sweet scent of flowers. (Of course, I had to incorporate this bit of lore into my Fallen books.) So maybe the next time you catch that scent in the air…just maybe it will mean that you aren’t alone. Maybe an angel will be close to you…

What do you think about angels? Particularly the fallen sort? Share! I’ll send an autographed copy of ANGEL BETRAYED to one randomly selected commenter.

I’m addicted to…

Update: My deepest apologies for not posting my winner’s information sooner!! I have been out of town, and I wasn’t able to connect to the Internet like I had anticipated. I am very, very sorry for the delay. I randomly picked the gift certificate winner, and that person is Carrie Strickler. Congrats, Carrie!

Monsters.

I know–that probably wasn’t much of a surprise now, was it? Considering that I spend my days writing about vampires, fallen angels, demons, werewolves…my monster addiction isn’t exactly a shocker.

But it is an addiction that I love. ;)

Books, movies, TV shows–if they have a paranormal edge, they draw me right into their tempting web. I don’t know why I missed it for so long, but I’m currently hooked on The Vampire Diaries (Come on, who else thinks bad-boy vamp Damon is awesome?). I’m counting down the days until the new season of True Blood starts (Eric will be bad again–yes!). And if a weekend gets a little slow, it’s always nice to pop in my Underworld DVDs and enter that fun story-line again.

Ah, monsters.

Sure, monsters aren’t always portrayed as sexy characters. Sometimes vampires can be horrible, bent on only killing and torturing. Sometimes werewolves can be mindless beasts who have no understanding of humanity.

I prefer the sexier monsters. Unless I’m in the mood for a scare…

What about you? Do you have a favorite fictional monster that you’d like to share? Please do! I’ll give one commenter a $10 Amazon.com gift certificate. (I’ll let the contest run until noon on Friday.)

Oh, and speaking of monsters (the sexy variety), here’s the cover for my September anthology (an anthology that also includes the wonderfully talented Shelly Laurenston):

Happy howling!

What’s your favorite?

I love Brava books. Love them. Long before I started writing for Brava, I was a Brava reader. I got hooked by Shanna McKenna–oh, she pulled me in her wicked, wicked web of wonder. (I’m still addicted to her stories, just so you know…)

I loved Brava stories. They’re sexy and suspenseful, wild and exciting. I can’t get enough of them.

But in addition to the suspenseful reads (which I always enjoy), I also found some hilarious Brava books that hooked me early on. Erin McCarthy wrote some books that were so funny, they made me cry. My husband always looks at me like I’m crazy when I do my cry/laugh routine as I read. ;)

But what about you? Do you have any favorite Bravas that you’d like to share with me? Maybe some oldies and always goodies? Perhaps we have some of the same favorites on our shelves!

Have a great Wednesday.

I’m Thankful (With Giveaway)

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Update: THANK YOU for all of the fantastic comments! I loved reading about the things that make you feel happy and thankful. I really appreciate you taking the time to share with me! I randomly picked a winner, and that commenter is…Lisa Dennin. Congrats, Lisa!

Happy Thanksgiving! Well, *almost* Thanksgiving for those celebrating in the U.S.

Tomorrow, thousands of turkeys will give their lives as we celebrate, and, oh, man, I am so eager for that good tasting food!

But I also really want to take a moment to just step back from the general craziness of the holidays (you know they can get crazy) and say just how thankful I am.

First…I’m thankful for my readers. Thank you for the emails and the kind words and the awesome support that you’ve given to me. Thank you for buying my books. For enjoying my characters–and for asking for more books (Thank you! Thank you!)

And, of course, I am super thankful to have my wonderful editor, Megan Records. She encourages me, she inspires me, and she always helps me to work and make my stories better. I’m sure lucky to have the Magnificient Megan! I love all the great folks at Kensington–I’m thankful for them all.

I’m thankful for the great reads I’ve had. Romance books have always given me an escape from everyday life. I’ve been turning to romance novels and their guaranteed happy endings for over twenty years…and they’ve never let me down. No matter what else is going on around me, I can count on a romance novel to make me feel good. Happy. Uplifted. I’m grateful to all the authors who’ve written such fabulous books–and who have hooked me on this great genre.

I’m thankful for my family. My husband and son know the drill at our house–if mommy is writing, STAY AWAY! :) Well, maybe not *away* but they do know to call my name 5-6 times in order to bring me out of my story and back to reality. I’m thankful for their patience.

I’m also thankful that my newest book, ANGEL OF DARKNESS, is releasing on 11/29. I loved writing this book, and I’m so happy that it’s about to be out! I sure hope readers enjoy it–and my take on dark angels.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And if you’re doing the Black Friday mania, be safe & have fun!

I’d love to giveaway an ANGEL OF DARKNESS copy. Want to win? Then tell me something that you’re thankful to have this year.

Best wishes,

Cynthia Eden

Angels, Wings, and Things (Giveaway!)

Update: Thank you all so much for the great comments!! I randomly selected our winner, and that person is…Alaina. Congrats, Alaina! Please email me at cynthia@cynthiaeden.com to claim your prize.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Okay, I know it’s not actually Halloween yet, but I won’t be posting on Halloween (some other lucky Brava author will have that date), so I figured I’d better get my Halloween wishes out there while I had the chance.

This year, I’m thinking about being an Angel of Death for Halloween. Ahem, yes, I could be thinking about this costume choice because I’ve seriously got angels on my mind. My first Fallen angel book, ANGEL OF DARKNESS, releases in just over a month (on 11/29/11), and, I’ve just finished writing the fourth tale (that one is called Avenging Angel). So since I’ve been in a writing frenzy, angels have pretty much been on my mind 24/7.

When an angel falls, all hell breaks loose...

And a fallen angel costume would be so easy. All I’d need is a pair of wicked cool black wings. Because in my Fallen books, my death angels all have black wings. I’ll have to check my local party supply store to see if they happen to have those in stock. (Please do, please!)

But if they don’t have the wings, I might just have to come up with a last minute costume plan. Because, come on, we all know that the closer you get to Halloween, well, the slimmer the pickings are when it comes to costume choices.

I could always go as a serial killer, I suppose. Just wear my regular clothes. Cause, you know, I’d be a serial killer on the down low.

Or I could dress as a zombie. Rip up some clothes. Paint my face white, darken my eyes with black circles and get some blood dripping from my lips. I’ve been tuning in to watch lots of THE WALKING DEAD episodes, so I should be able to pull off a semi-passable zombie routine.

Hmmmm…do you have any good last minute costume ideas to share? Or do you have some fabulous costume that you’ve already got picked out (and you want to tell me about it so I can be super jealous!)? Then please share! I’ll pick one commenter to win ANGEL OF DARKNESS (early copy). I’ll leave the contest open until noon on Friday. Good luck!

Holidays Are On My Mind…

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011
Cynthia Eden Icon

Thank you so much for all of the holiday comments! I had a wonderful time reading them! I randomly picked a winner, and that person is…Temara. Congrats!!! And I hope you are all having a great weekend!

I’ll confess…the main holiday that is on my mind right now? Halloween. I love the thrills, the chills, the spooky movies, and of course, the candy. (Come on, I’m not the only parent out there who likes to dip into her kid’s candy bag, am I?)

But I’m not just thinking about Halloween. I’m also thinking about–Christmas. And not just because I have some friends who are over-achievers and have already completed their Christmas shopping. (Sob.) No, I’m thinking about Christmas because on next Tuesday (October 4!), the mass market version of THE NAUGHTY LIST will be available from Kensington Brava.

THE NAUGHTY LIST is filled with 3 sexy, holiday tales–perfect for those times when when you just want to sit down, relax, and sink into the holiday spirit.

So how about we do a giveaway? I’ll send a copy of THE NAUGHTY LIST to one commenter. Just tell me which holiday you are looking forward to the most right now. I’ll pick the winner on Friday, September 30th. Good luck!!
