The Wolf Prince

Monday, November 8th, 2010

A sexy shape-shifting prince from a faraway galaxy arrives on Earth to save a woman who doesn’t know she’s part alien because rogues are killing off  impures.  But when she clobbers the prince over the head, he gets amnesia, and now both their lives are in danger.

I love playing games and my favorite game is asking myself how I can twist a plot and make it more interesting.  Okay, I’ll admit it, I also love screwing with my characters lives.  It makes the writing more fun.  Not that my characters appreciate all that conflict, though.

I can see Darcy looking at me with one eyebrow raised.  “Really, Karen?  You let me have the upper hand when I clobbered this sexy naked man, but then you just had to lay a guilt trip on me by giving him amnesia?”

And then there’s hunky Surlock *sigh*   ”I was only trying to save her life.  Can I help it if I’m naked after I shift from my wolf guide back to my human form?”

Writing is such fun!  I hope you enjoy reading Darcy and Surlock’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Best,

Babies–who can resist?

Monday, October 11th, 2010

I had no idea what I was going to blog about until I went to Facebook this morning and my wonderful d-i-l had posted some pics of our 5 month old grandson.  He’s sooooo cute!  This is their first and Cooper (note the romance hero name!) is probably going to be a teensy bit rotten,

Our other grandchildren by our daughter and s-i-l are 14, 16, and 20 years old so while we enjoy them, it’s just not the same as having a baby.  We’re so incredibly blessed to be given the joy of spoiling another one  :)   It’s like starting all over again.  Sometimes starting over isn’t so very bad.  We won’t be buying the expensive little motorized sports car when he’s only three years old forcing his parents to run along side it so he can keep the car on the sidewalk–but you have to admit it was good exercise for them.  No, everything will be age appropriate.  I swear.  *snort*  Kids are fun.  They make us feel incredibly old and young at the same time.

I have another baby :)   The Wolf Prince.  For writers, our books are not just words we scribble down on paper.  Our books are our babies, and hopefully, we’ll be able to entertain you, we’ll be able to bring you into, and make you a part of our world for just a bit.  Hopefully, you’ll enjoy your stay.

So, I’m counting down the weeks (about 2) before The Wolf Prince makes its way into the world.  I hope you enjoy my baby.

Best Wishes,

Karen Kelley

Growth Spurts

Monday, September 13th, 2010
Karen Kelley Icon

Sometimes, when we least expect it, our life can change.  I call it growth spurts.  I don’t always like these changes if it turns my life topsy-turvey, which it usually does, but when I look back over the years, I can see that I’ve learned something new about life, and about myself.  As these changes occur, my life slowly begins to shift until everything is right in the world once again.  I’m feeling very mellow these days.

Okay, enough “deep thoughts”.  Yea, Fall is in the air!!!  Then winter, and no more shaving our legs until spring!!!  Woo-hoo!!!!

I was talking to my agent the other day and he said he was thankful for the cooler temps.  I agreed, we’re finally in the 90′s.  He said something like Good, Lord, how hot does it get in Texas?  In our part, I’ve seen it 116.  So the 90′s feel pretty good to me.

Once, a friend decided she would fly to my part of Texas and we could drive to a conference which was in Houston.  I told her that would be fine but it would be a 7 hour drive so she would need early at my house.  She didn’t realize Texas was so big.

I love traveling.  Tell me something about your state, even if it’s Texas, that you enjoy and I’ll put your name in a drawing for a chance to win an ARC of The Wolf Prince, my November release.  I’ll choose two winners and will announce them here and I’ll notify them by private e-mail.  The drawing ends Tuesday Sept 14th at noon.

Good Luck!

The Secret To Success

Monday, August 9th, 2010
Karen Kelley Icon

I love romance and I’ve been very lucky to have found my soulmate.  This month we’ll celebrate 41 years together.  Wow, that’s still hard for me to believe.   When he comes in the front door after work and I catch that first glimpse of him, it’s as if the years have rolled back and he’s the young boy I first fell in love with, the man I still love today.

A lot of people have asked me the secret to a successful marriage.  I hear so many times—I love him/her so much I would die for them.  Would I risk my life to save Karl if he were in danger?  I think so.  If it was an instant response most of us might make that same decision.  But there’s more to loving someone than dying for them.  There’s greater things at risk.  Bigger questions you can ask yourself.

Would you take out the trash for your spouse?  Seriously, think about it a moment.  You might push your spouse out of the way to save him and the car hit you instead.  But say you both come home from work, both tired, and someone has to take out the trash.

The next time someone asks you how much you love your spouse look them right in the eye and tell them you would take out the trash for the one you love.

I love writing romance.  I like to think my hero would take out the trash and my heroine would load the diswasher.  Speaking of romance—The Falcon Prince came out this month!  I hope everyone enjoys it!

Best Wishes,

Double Dating With The Dead

Monday, July 12th, 2010
Karen Kelley Icon

Is available for the very first time in mass market!!!  Woo-hoo!!!  And watch for The Falcon Prince July 27th.

Romantic Times 4 1/2 Stars! “An over-the-top, spunky romance, Kelley’s novel is fast and delightful. The author has found her niche in romance, this time combining against-all-odds love and an outrageous plot with prankster ghosts. Fans will not be disappointed with the witty humor, wacky characters and sexual tension, and new readers will be hooked.” – - Jennifer Madsen, Romantic Times.

“Double Dating with the Dead is a funny, delightful read. It is an excellent way to spend an afternoon or evening. Karen Kelley writes with a lovely wit that kept me turning the pages. I enjoyed this book very much and I highly recommend it.” — Barb, Joyfully Reviewed and Joyfully Recommended

Here’s the back cover blurb:

HANDS OFF MY ASTRAL PLANE!

Psychic Selena James is having the kind of week that makes her happy to talk to the dead. First, famously skeptical (and sinfully sexy) writer, Trent Sanders, called her delusional on TV. Next, her outraged mother publicly challenged him to spend two weeks with Selena at the haunted Garvey Hotel. Now, if Selena can’t prove ghosts exist, she’ll answer to Trent’s private wager: one night in his bed. It doesn’t take any psychic abilities to know Trent could satisfy a woman’s every fantasy. And she may find out very soon, if the two sex-starved ghosts in residence have their way…

Trent Sanders doesn’t believe in anything he can’t see, taste, or touch, and what he sees right now he would definitely enjoying tasting and touching. Selena James might be a bit kooky, but she’s also blessed with a body that could certainly raise the dead, if not talk to them. She’s even got a wicked sense of humor, like when she pinched his butt and insisted it wasn’t her, but one of the “ghosts.” Riiiiiight. But as things move from “haunted” to extremely hot, Trent’s starting to believe the paranormal is a one-way—make that four-way—ticket to paradise…

Enjoy!

What would happen if….

Monday, June 14th, 2010
Karen Kelley Icon

I have a warped way of looking at things, add to that a wild sense of humor and that pretty much describes my writing.  I love adding comedy to my books.  I usually start by thinking about my hero or heroine.  In Double Dating With The Dead, I knew I wanted my heroine, Selena, to be a psychic.  I’m fascinated with psychic’s.  My favorite is John Edward.  I think he’s absolutely incredible.  I admit that I believe the dead can contact people.  I’ve had a few experiences that made me a true believer.

I had to give Selena a hero so naturally the first thing that I thought about was who would be the worst possible match for her?  See, I am warped.  That’s when I created Trent Sanders–skeptic.  But not only is he a skeptic, but he’s a writer who disses psychic’s.

A challenge is issued when Trent asserts, on local TV, Selena is misleading the public with her newspaper column.  She claims she can talk to the dead.

Let the games begin as a psychic and a skeptic are forced to stay two weeks in a vacant, reportedly,  haunted hotel….with two sex starved ghosts.

“An over the top spunky romance…Fans will not be disappointed with the witty humor, wacky characters and sexual tension, and new readers will be hooked.”—Romantic Times

Double Dating With The Dead will be out July 6th in mass market and is available for preorder.

Best Wishes,

Full Circle

Monday, May 10th, 2010
Karen Kelley Icon

We were called to the hospital on Monday.  Our daughter in law went into labor early.  After 15+ hours, they finally did a c-section.  This is their first and emotions were running high.

At 7:46 PM on May 4th Cooper William Kelley arrived weighing in at 8lbs 7oz.  Our son Billy proudly showed us his baby as a tear rolled down his cheek.  In a quick flash, I saw Billy toddling toward me with hands held out.  I saw him carving his name on his dresser, I saw myself holding him tight when he had his first seizure and telling him everything would be okay, I saw him letter in sports in high school despite taking 20 pills a day to control his epilepsy, I saw him walk across the stage to get his college degree–the first in our family, I saw him fall in love, get married.  And then I saw his future and it was good.

I love happily ever afters.  The “after” is the best part

Have a great.  I’m spoiling the new grandson and loving it!

I was walking out to my office one day last year breathing in the fresh air and loving that winter was over. The birds were singing in the trees and everything felt right in the world.  I unlocked the door and went inside, got out my laptop and started working when the most beautiful sound filled my office.  It was a high-pitched whistle followed by a warble-warble.  I’d never heard this bird before and I felt it was a gift from God.

An hour later the damned bird was still screeching and I was pretty sure it was demon possessed.  The next door cat slipped to our side of the fence and began to serenade the cat in heat on the other side of our fence. Even with my ear buds firmly in place and the music blasting me off to early deafness, I could still hear the bird.  The bird eventually flew off, apparently frightened by the cat, which was about the time the dog next door decided the kids walking down the street could possibly be escaped convicts and they set up a ruckus and managed to scare the screeching bird back to our yard.

My writing day could have been lost but the cat suddenly became a jaguar and shapeshifted into a handsome hero, the screeching bird became a hawk that shapeshifted into a hot hunky hero, and the dog became a wolf and shapeshifted into another sexy hero.  The kids walking down the street became rogue symtarians who were trying to kill impures and now my heroes had to save the impures.  Thus, The Jaguar Prince—in stores now!!!!, The Falcon Prince-Aug, and The Wolf Prince-Nov were created.

The moral of the story: move to the damned country and get more work done!  LOL  I hope everyone enjoys my new releases!

Have a great day!

Superbowl Sunday

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Karen Kelley Icon

I don’t watch the football.  I don’t understand how my husband can get so excited about a silly game—but I did want to watch the commercials.

How was I to know New Orleans was playing?  I love New Orleans.  I’ve set books in New Orleans.  Gone there for research.  I figured I might as well watch since I’m working on a proposal that’s set in New Orleans.  You know, kind of set the mood or something.

By half-time I was getting up during the commercials so I didn’t miss the game.  I had a Budlight in one hand and Doritos in the other.  A couple of times my husband and I bumped knuckles.  We yelled, we jumped up from our seats—we bonded.

That’s what love is all about.  It’s the moments we share with that special person in our lives.  It doesn’t matter if it’s a football game or a romantic movie (and yes, he watches them with me).  Wow, I’m a football wife and didn’t even know it.  Next year I’m adding fritos and chili to the menu!

In other news, The Jaguar Prince (April), The Falcon Prince (August), and The Wolf Prince (Nov) are available for pre order.  The first two covers are up on my website—verrry sexy!  Check them out at www.authorkarenkelley.com

Hugs,

Karen
