Update: The gift card winner is…bn100!

When he first appeared in ANGEL OF DARKNESS, Sammael (Sam) wasn’t exactly the guy riding to the rescue on a white horse. Sam was a fallen angel, a guy who had fallen very, very far from grace. He knew all about sin, and Sam wasn’t afraid to kill in order to get what he wanted.

Actually, Sam wasn’t afraid of anything.

While I wrote ANGEL OF DARKNESS, I really became interested in Sam’s character. I wondered what would happen if he got to be the “hero” in his own tale.

I knew turning Sam into a hero would be a tricky business, but I’ll just go ahead and confess…my favorite heroes to write? They’re the bad guys. The men that, if they aren’t careful, could cross that line into evil-land. They’re dangerous, they’re powerful, and, in the right, desperate situation, they can also be just the men that my heroines need.

And when they are paired with their heroines, these men become more. More than just bad boys. More than just guys with a darkness growing inside. They can show strength. Courage. They can love.

But loving isn’t easy for them.

So Sam…I didn’t give him an easy time of it when I wrote his story (ANGEL BETRAYED). I forced his character to fight for everything that he wanted. After all, what’s a happy ending worth if you don’t have to fight for it?

In ANGEL BETRAYED, Sam has the fight of his life waiting for him. Lucky for Sam, the angel is one hell of a fighter.

Thanks for checking out my post! And, hey, how about a prize? I just talked about bad guys…but why don’t you tell me about your favorite “bad” girl/heroine? I’ll pick one commenter to win a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card. Good luck!
