Update: My deepest apologies for not posting my winner’s information sooner!! I have been out of town, and I wasn’t able to connect to the Internet like I had anticipated. I am very, very sorry for the delay. I randomly picked the gift certificate winner, and that person is Carrie Strickler. Congrats, Carrie!
Monsters.
I know–that probably wasn’t much of a surprise now, was it? Considering that I spend my days writing about vampires, fallen angels, demons, werewolves…my monster addiction isn’t exactly a shocker.
But it is an addiction that I love.
Books, movies, TV shows–if they have a paranormal edge, they draw me right into their tempting web. I don’t know why I missed it for so long, but I’m currently hooked on The Vampire Diaries (Come on, who else thinks bad-boy vamp Damon is awesome?). I’m counting down the days until the new season of True Blood starts (Eric will be bad again–yes!). And if a weekend gets a little slow, it’s always nice to pop in my Underworld DVDs and enter that fun story-line again.
Ah, monsters.
Sure, monsters aren’t always portrayed as sexy characters. Sometimes vampires can be horrible, bent on only killing and torturing. Sometimes werewolves can be mindless beasts who have no understanding of humanity.
I prefer the sexier monsters. Unless I’m in the mood for a scare…
What about you? Do you have a favorite fictional monster that you’d like to share? Please do! I’ll give one commenter a $10 Amazon.com gift certificate. (I’ll let the contest run until noon on Friday.)
Oh, and speaking of monsters (the sexy variety), here’s the cover for my September anthology (an anthology that also includes the wonderfully talented Shelly Laurenston):
Happy howling!

My fav monster is, Blade. He’s half vamp and half human. He kills bad vamps to keep humans safe. But the part that makes him a monster, is that he enjoys killing vamps for the thrill of the kill. At least that’s what I see. hehe.

I really enjoy Blade’s character, too! Such a strong hero! Thanks for sharing.
Uh yeah, I love sexy beasts. Twenty or more years ago , there was a tv show starring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton called Beauty and the Beast. It was so good. He was a tortured soul who found love with a beautiful woman. He felt unworthy. She loved him in spite of the way he looked. Check it out. Thanks!
I remember that show–loved it! I think it may be partly responsible for my monster addiction!
My favorite monster is by far not sexy at all… Lol, but to me, the ra’zac from Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance series is super scary, so therefore I love it.

Kelsey, you know I’m going to have to check out this series now…
My favorite monsters would have to be the Goa’uld from the Stargate series. Sure, sure, they’re more “Alien” than “monster”, but that’s semantics really.
Gross little parasitic worms that they are the lore is facinating. Some of them are evil, some of them are SUPER EVIL and some of them are… slightly less evil. I mean they impersinate Gods from all kinds of different pantheons. It’s two of my favorite things (Science fiction and mythology) all rolled into one!
Plus some of their hosts make pretty good eye candy. ;D
Science fiction + mythology…oh, that’s a win for me!
Plus MacGyver (a.k.a. Richard Dean Anderson) is in the series! Win win situation right there.
Goodness …. for reading I don’t really have a specific type of “monster” that I like to read about but lately I have been more inclined to read about shape-shifters more then anything.
With that being said I do love reading about vamps too.
But if I had to choose one specifically from TV/Movies, I think I like Eric from True Blood the best. =0)
Eric always has my vote, too! (But, wait, Alcide also has it…)
Oooh… I LOVE Damon… in the books and the tv show. He’s my favorite… The actor who portrays him does a terrific job…. It’s rare that a tv show can live up my imagaination of the hero and heroine……
May, I think he is doing a fabulous job, too! I can’t wait for his scenes each episode.
My favorite monster right now is Raphael from Nalini Singh’s books. He’s technically an archangel, but he can be very, very monsterous
Aren’t the guys with the bad/monster side interesting? That darkness can be appealing!
It was vamps but you have turned me to Werewolves!!!
Yay, Heather!
My 1st favorite would Spike and then Eric from True Blood.
Oh and with books I would say Jean Claude from Anita Blake series and Roarke from the Eve Dallas series.
Khelsey, Spike will always have a special monster place in my heart! I keep hoping that maybe, one day, we’ll see a Buffy movie with the old cast-including Spike.
My favorite monster is Niol Lapen, a demon, from MIDNIGHT’S MASTER. Oh, I love vampires, shifters, all of them but none can top the level 10 demon.
So many favorite sexy monsters! Gregory from Dark Magician by Christine Feehan…he’s dark, moody and scary but oh so HAWT and will do ANYTHING to keep his woman safe and happy! Wraith from Larissa Ione’s Demonica series…big, bad dude who takes care of others. Phoenix from Night Magic by Jennifer Lyon…a control freak who is struggling with his strong, blind witch! Can’t choose just one!
books4me67 at ymail dot com
You’re totally right–it’s not fair to choose just one…so choose them all!
Wraith is my first book boyfriend so I have to pick him even though I don’t think of him as a monster. My second is Niol. I’ve told you before I just LOVE him! Both of these guys can really be monsters when they want to be too – scary dudes!
vsloboda(at)gmail(dot)com
LOL, you cracked me up at “book boyfriend”–that phrase is awesome. (And thank you!)
I’m with you an Damon. My favorite monster so far is Curran, Lord of the Beasts, from Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series.
I just don’t understand how I missed Damon for almost 3 seasons! I’m always late to the fun.
Well, lately I’ve been watching The Lost Girl on SyFy which I like and they have light and dark Fae, Shapeshifters and other kinds of supernatural characters. And there’s also The Walking Dead – nothing is more scary than a flesh eating zombie! Plus I’m waiting for True Blood to come back too…lol
My husband is addicted to The Walking Dead–and I’ll confess, I like to watch, too!
what really scares me. damn apes , the planet of the apes, i cant watch it. and they keep making more movies of it AGH
LOL, they do keep making more of those flicks!
my kids laugh at me about the apes, ill watch the most horror movie but cant watch apes
I am really into weres right now. I think they make such good monsters…
I agree with you!
My favorite monsters are vampires since they got me interested in the paranormal, my favorite vamp on a show would be Eric from true blood.
Do you think Eric will have a good (bad boy) season?
Can I say my favorite monster is dragons? Were-dragons or just dragons.
Yes, please, list dragons! I love them, too!
My favorite monster at the moment is..”.Mommy Darkness” The Mother of all darkness…from Laurell k. Hamilton Anita Blake series. you just can’t keep a good b**ch down.
That is an amazingly fun tagline…
My favorite monster is a beast! Barrons from the Fever series. In fact he’s so mysterious I’m not even sure of his exact species but I do know I want more like him.
Cambonified{at}yahoo{dot}com
Oh, he sounds interesting!
Hey Cynthia! I grew up in the Dark Shadows era, so I would have to say Barnabas Collins. ( I can’t wait for the new Dark Shadows movie!) I am also a big fan of the classic movie monsters: The Mummy, Drac, Wolfman. I love the old movies! I can’t wait for all of the new releases for the year. Thanks for the awesome giveaway my friend. bpatrick64113@sbcglobal.net
I love Barnabas!! I am so eager for that new movie–I bet it will be great. Thanks for coming by!
My favorite monster is Raphael from the Guild Hunter series though I’m not sure you can classify him as a fallen angel.
dsadler53 at yahoo dot ca
I’ve heard great things about him!
Always loved a sexy vamp story and still love them but your werewolf books have me LOVING the wolves too!!!!!! : ) Keep ‘em coming!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Heather!
I love all kinds of supernatural creatures from angels to demons and everything in between! But I have a hard time calling them “monsters”. When I think monster I think ugly & nasexy of the crazy sexy characters in the books and shows I am addicted to! Picking one is impossible!!!
I too am looking forward to Trueblood and think Erik will be back to being bad. But it will be ooh so good!!!
Maria S
Great cover! I like Kresley Cole’s characters.
Thank you! And I really enjoy her books, too. Those Immortals After Dark are addictive!
My favorite monster is the one I’m reading about now lol. Loves dragon shifters but like all shifters and am truly loving the different types of monsters authors are coming up with now. Don’t get me wrong vamps are still yummy but love the differents ones too.
I so need your new anthology that cover rocks and it contains two of my favorite authors. Can’t get here soon enough for me.
Aw, thank you, Pamk! And I’m with you–I love all the different types of monsters out there. So fun!
I love all kinds of monsters.Especially Alcide. YUM…
Then there are Deagus and Drustan Mackeltar from Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series. Barrons from her Fever series.

Alcide is just so…awesome.
I love this post
This is a hard choice for me though. I really love, vampires, shifters, griffons, dragons, and gargoyles! And whatever Barrons is in the Fever series!
Thanks for the really fun post!!

So glad you liked the post, Ashley! I don’t think there can ever be too many awesome monsters out there.
I’ll admit it– I’m addicted to shape shifters. All of them– which is why I love you and Shelly so much. My favorite are werewolves with attitude– snarky, bad ass attitude. LOL
wayfaringwriter at gmail dot com
I have an addiction to Bad Boy Heroes, period…monster or not
But I do have a fondness for shifter heroes more than any other type of monster hero…though last year I read The Goblin King…and never really thought I would like think a Goblin could be sexy (especially after Lord of the Rings), but I have to say that I think Ms Husk really pulled it off and was one of my favorite different type of paranormal hero from 2011

p.s. love the new cover!
