My favorite holiday tradition is choosing a child from the Angel Tree. I don’t have children of my own so I love to be able to shop for little ones for Christmas. I usually go overboard but who cares.

Growing up my mom always let us make cookies on Christmas Eve and then my brothers, my sister and I would sit around while my dad read “Twas the Noght Before Christmas”. My dad has been gone for 10 years now but I still continue that tradition with my two kids. I hope that when they are grown they will continue to do it also.

Since my birthday is on Dec 20th, it kind of took away from Christmas a little. I loved when I was little my Dad would driving around so we could see all the lights in different neighborhoods. Putting up the Christmas tree (always real) and the huge Christmas garden he would put up with two rain sets running around it. The tree would be in the middle and it had houses and lamp posts that lit up. That was always special to me.

When we were kids we would have a weekend set aside to make new ornaments and repair old ones. There would be Christmas music playing, cookies and hot chocolate.

My two favorite holiday traditions are Christmas lights and decorations, and Christmas music! At least once in December I combine the two by piling my kids into the car, turning up the Christmas music, and driving around for an hour or two singing and looking at decorations! I love this time of the year when I get away from everything with the kids and just enjoy being together:)

Our tradition is touring the neighborhood and taking in all the beautiful decorations that result from competitions held by the neighborhood organizations. Folks around here go all out in decorating their houses and yards. Some times we form a group and sing Christmas carols at some of the houses where we know the residents. Then we return to our house for hot chocolate and cookies. It is great fun.
