I love the term casting and the spin that puts on characters. And I like the idea of discussing a character’s motivation because while a writer has to develop a ton of backstory to write thenhere and now story of the book, only 10% of all the backstory (aka a character’s motivating force) is ever disclosed in the novel. Topics that I NEVER get tired of talking about include “casting” characters ESPECIALLY when asked WHY I cast a character as I did! That’s the number one conversation starter for me on blogs!! I also love questions about motive, setting, world/city/state development, and all questions about plot.
Oh, and character development–why they are who they are and how each particular personality is unique.

You’re the second person to mention discussing happenings at home and I rather like the idea of mentioning how the story and/or writing infiltrates into the family…

Like how my college daughter came home last night, picked up my cover flat and claimed the model cover as her new boyfriend…proceeding to make up a whole history between bringing her sister and I to tears with laughter.

Hi Barbarb,

Weird, I read this in my email, but somehow missed it in the filter.

And sorry I did, because there are so many awesome, fresh ideas. I especially love the holiday idea for the characters – 1) because we’re coming up on so many holidays that I’ll be blogging through and 2) because my characters on the whole — the group of firefighters involved in the series, not only in FEVER — are like one big snarky family, and are so fun to mess with I could just see them at a big “family” dinner table.

I agree with you on the rehashing of the same information someone could find on a website bio page or something that’s discussed over and over on various blogs.

Thanks for you compliments on style, that helps quite a bit too.

Well, asking about favorite type of shifter or shifters one want to read more of is a popular question for authors of paranormal books/blogs so most other genres probably won’t have a “popular question” problem.

If you get a chance, please do write a giant insect shifter into a book! That’d be awesome! 6-foot dragonflies! Cicadas the size of ponies! Tiger-sized bumblebees to settle the question once and for all of the aerodynamics of bee flight!
