Hi Na, how are you?

I'm with you on the 'protection' theme. I love a 'man to the rescue' story, even with a kick arse heroine. We all like to think someone is there to protect and love us.

There are so many traits I love in a hero, one of them is the unflinching need to protect their loved ones. They may not always be able to do so, but that doesn't mean they won't go to any length to do. That means they may be placed in situations where they have to lie to to protect and kill to save, even if it means sacrifcing their happiness.

One of my favourite heroes is Zsadist from J.R. Ward's BDB series, who truly never knew what love was until he met his love. He didn't think he deserved her, but he did everything he could to keep her safe. I connected with him emotionally and that is why I really liked him.

Hi Pam

Thank you for the lovely comment re: Invitation to Ruin.

Now, you know how to pick a man. Isn't Dewayne, The Rock? I love him in all of his movies. I can't wait to see Fast Five - I'm also a huge Vin Diesel fan.

I loved your post and have to say your traits summed up the perfect hero for me lol. I can not for the life of me narrow it down to one trait only. Hugh Jackman, Matthew Machoney, Dewayne Johnson...love all these guys.

Invitation to Ruin sounds like its going to be awesome, have it wish listed.

Hi Lizzi

I love an intelligent man. But he has to have a sense of humor and humility with it. Some-one like Hugh Jackman!

I've read the book you have mentioned and loved it very much. I agree with you. The hero was the perfect blend of tough on the outside and marshmallow on the inside.

I'm glad you liked Sonny. He’ll be a hero to all of NZ if he helps the All Blacks win the Rugby World Cup.

Hi Bronwen!
My favorite trait in a hero is selflessness. Why? Because even though (like in Regency) the hero can come across as aloof, rakish, or unfeeling, it takes a special woman to break these types of heros and I love seeing when they realize that no matter their reputation to others, they know that they would do anything for her. For example, in a book I recently read (Regency setting) Ainsley is exactly all of those 'reputation' traits to others, but he has been in love with his best friend's wife since he met her, so when an opportunity comes up for him to give her a child she wouldn't have been able to have with her husband, Ainsley does so without thinking of all of the repurcussions. It was just that Jayne wanted a child and he had the power to give her one. Didn't matter that he couldn't claim Jayne or the child, he just wanted her to be happy. Of course this is where the story starts to really get complicated, but hopefully you get my drift:)

I was wondering who the hunky tattooed man was ;-)

Physical, mental and emotional strength tempered by wisdom and care. Not sure if that counts as one trait, but it's all one to me, I think!
thanks, Bronwyn.
