UPDATE: Congratulations to Brinda B for winning the copy of FATED. I’ll send it right out!
My debut book releases this month.
Well, technically FATED releases on March 1st, but it will be available on February 22nd. My magnificent editor, Megan Records, sent me some promo copies…and I’d love to give one away today.
Here’s the back cover blurb:
MARRY ME
Cara Paulsen does not give up easily. A scientist and a single mother, she’s used to doing whatever it takes to protect her daughter. But “Whatever it takes” has never before included a shotgun wedding to a dangerous stranger with an attitude problem…
OR ELSE
Sure, the mysterious Talen says that he’s there to protect Cara and her daughter. He also says that he’s a three-hundred-year-old vampire. Of course, the way he touches her, Cara might actually believe he’s had that long to practice…
The interaction between these two very stubborn people makes for some steamy situations. Here’s an excerpt of FATED:
Slowly, Talen pushed to his feet and strolled across the conference room.
Cara took a step back, her breath hitching.
Smiling, he leaned against the closed door.
She’d need to go through him to get out. God, he was huge. Even if she had known how to fight, she doubted she’d stand a chance when faced with such size and obvious strength. A feminine fear and a flutter she refused to identify whispered through her, and her spine straightened with a sharp snap.
“I won’t hurt you.” His voice lowered, deepening to a tone that increased her flutter. He relaxed his stance against the door, his muscled arms crossing. “I won’t let anyone harm either of you. Ever.”
Okay. Fine. He was too big for her to fight, but she did have a brain. “Listen, Talen,” she kept her voice soft, soothing. “It’s great your dating pool just opened up and all, but I’m not looking for—”
A dimple winked in his cheek, stopping her words. She fought to keep her tone mild. “Am I amusing you?” Her chin lifted.
“Yes.”
“Why?” She could even feel his amusement in the air, damn it.
“Your people. I’ve never understood why you ignore fate. She has her own plans.”
“Fate?” He was throwing destiny at her? Come on.
He nodded. “Fate.”
“Wow. That’s poetic, Talen.” Sarcasm replaced the softness. “But there’s no way fate is involved here.”
“You’re wrong.”
“Prove it.”
“Okay.” He lifted his right hand, palm out. A crest, an intricate one, spread across his calloused skin. Thick and black, a webbing of arcs together formed a knot with what might be an elaborate ‘K’ in the middle.
“A tattoo?” She quirked an eyebrow, wondered if he had other tats on that magnificent body.
“No. A brand of sorts. It appeared earlier after I took your arm.”
“A brand?” She snorted. “Bullshit.”
Talen shrugged. “It’s true, Cara. The Mark usually doesn’t appear until the mating act, but there are exceptions.” Golden eyes pinned her. “Our bond must be strong.”
“No.”
Talen lifted a shoulder.
Her mind rebelled at the physical evidence before her eyes. “I said, no. I choose to ignore your fate.” How could the mark have appeared? Conviction sat easily upon his face and her stomach rolled at the question of how far he’d go to follow his fate.
“That is your choice,” he agreed.
“Damn straight.” She searched his face for a trick, determination tightening her own jaw. A raised eyebrow met her glare. “But you don’t know anything about me. I could be married.”
“You’re not.”
“How do you know?”
He shrugged. “My brother Dage shot your file to my smart phone.”
Smart phone? Vampires used smart phones? Come on. “Where were you?” Damn her curiosity.
“In a meeting with my other brother, Conn.”
Geez. Sounded like a family oriented creature of the night. Or day. Or whatever. She tried another tack. “Besides, I have a date tonight.”
She wasn’t sure what her goal was, but she didn’t reach it. A genuine smile played across his lips, and he uncrossed his arms. “You’re not going to make it.”

Congrats on your release! This book has been added to my wish list.
Hey, thanks Tiana! I have a huge wish list as well. Have a fantastic weekend.
Believe in fate? Of course! How else would I STILL be married to the same man for over thirty-one years when we’d only known each other for three months before our wedding day? And they said it wouldn’t last! Ha!
LOVED the excerpt and can’t wait to get this read in my hot little hands. Best of luck on your release, Rebecca!
Ah Maeve! You’re such a romantic…which is why you write such awesome romances! Have a great weekend.
Hi, Rebecca! Great excerpt–now I’m hooked! I want to read all about Cara and Talen and “The Dark Protectors”! I’d love to win “FATED”!!!
I have come to believe that our “fate or luck” is determined by our choices. Once we make a choice, the fate that was predetermined by that choice will then follow through. However, I strongly believe in true love and one and only soulmates. Once that true love is embedded in your heart, it is there to stay. No matter how you try to deny it, or work around it, it is immovable. Your soulmate is worth a lifetime wait : )
Hey Virginia! I agree. What was fun in FATED is that Talen believed in fate and Cara didn’t…in the end they both had to choose their path. Thanks for dropping by today!
Do I believe in fate? No. In all honesty, I don’t. I believe in hard work and discipline and making my own opportunities, whether that’s at my job or in my marriage. Maybe “fate” is a little subconscious kicker going “Ooh– now HERE’S an opportunity!” I got engaged at eighteen and have been married for 17+ years and, while there’s been a whole lot of magic along the way, there’s also been lots of discipline and sticking-to-it-ness. He’s a keeper and I’m beyond thrilled I walked into that college dorm room all those years ago and accidentally met him, but our success has been because we both valued what we’d found and worked hard at our relationship– not because it was “fated”
Hi Anne! Ahhh…but why did you walk into that particular room on that particular day…
I agree that no matter where fate may push us, the rest is up to us. And marriage is both magical and hard work!
I’ve been seeing this cover for a month or so and I am drawn to it… The teaser is wonderful and I can’t wait for the book to be released! (fingers are crossed for ebook edition for nook
)
I know it’s going to be a great read
Hi Susan! I know it’s available on Kindle March 1st, so I have high hopes for the nook! Thanks for popping by today!
Sometimes I believe in fate and sometimes I don’t, but I’m definitely interested in reading this book. The website excerpt drew me in a long time ago, and I’m glad I’ll be able to get my hands on it soon.
Congrats on your upcoming release, Rebecca!
Hi Jess! Thanks so much. I’m so excited it’ll be released soon…I hope you like it!
I just love the cover!
I absolutely believe in fate! There are things that have happened in my life both big and small that I don’t believe could be attributed to anything else but fate. I’m not at all a lucky person, but perhaps that’s my fate:)

Hi Yadira! I’ve also wondered about both fate and luck…do they go hand in hand or do they battle each other? Hmm…there may be a book there somewhere.
Yessss! I’ve been patiently waiting for this book to come out. There’s a reason why I caught this tweet today! I NEED a copy! Yes, NEED!
Thanks for the giveaway, much appreciated!
Hey Peep! Thanks so much…I hope you like FATED!
I believe that things have a way of working themselves out:)
Hi Lindsay! I like your outlook. Sometimes I need to remind myself of that.
WOW, this book sounds so great! Congrats! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I win!!
Good luck, Kim!

Hi Gama! You’re in the drawing…good luck!
I believe in Fate. IN fact I think Fate can be a bitch alot of the times
Can’t wait to buy this book in the store and for my nook! I have to have both!!
Great post, great book!!
Sayde
Hi Sayde! Don’t tick off fate…haha. Have a great one!
Fate is the only thing that could have brought my husband and me together. I just happened on a whim to go in a small convenience shop I rarely visited and there he was. Fast forward four years after he left and went to the opposite coast. He comes back, and well, that was that.
Your book sounds great, Rebecca. I hope you sell out forst print run in record time. Hmm, record, Records. Maybe there’s something there…
My best,
Bobbye Terry aka Daryn Cross
Hi Bobbye! Thanks so much for the good wishes! I love true love stories like yours!
This one sounds awesome. I’d love to be entered to win a copy! Good luck.
Hi Martha! Consider yourself entered to win! Have a fantastic weekend.
Sounds like an incredible book! I can’t wait to read it. Would love to win it, but in either case, it’s definitely on my TBR list.
Thanks, Vicky! You’re entered to win–have a great one!
Do I believe in fate? Oh ya.
As for luck I like what Thomas Jefferson said:
“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.”
This book looks so awesome. One way or another I’ve got to have it
Hi Griffin! I love the quote–it’s perfect! Thanks for dropping by today.
I absolutely do believe in fate, especially enjoy it in the paranormal romances I read. Makes for some fun storylines, and the chemistry between the characters is usually pretty explosive. The belief that there someone out there to be your one and only is wonderfully romantic.
caity_mack at yahoo dot com
I agree, Cathy! I liked having the theme of Fate running through the story. (Though the amazing Megan Records actually came up with the title!) Have a great day.
I love paranormal romances and this book sounds right up my alley. Look forward to reading it! And yes, I totally believe in fate. I do believe that, to an extent, we make our own fate with decisions that we make but I think certain things (like love) are just truly fated to be.
Laura, I really like how you put that. I met my husband when I was six years old…then we ran into each other as adults. So I’ve always thought fate played a part.
Wow, Rebecca! Six years old! That’s crazy! LOL I thought my husband and I went back a long way! We started dating when I was 16 and have been together ever since.
I completely believe in fate because this man is totally my soul mate. My life wouldn’t be the same without him.
Congrats! Sounds like a great read!
Robin
Thanks, Robin! I’ll enter you in the drawing! Thanks for dropping by today.
I don’t think you can love the concept of romance without believing in fate- at least a little bit. It gives us hope for a happy ending and sometimes explains the “not so happy” endings. Love your blurb. I need to read this! *peeking above her high stack of TBR*
Hi Brinda! Your TBR pile sounds like mine! Have a great weekend.
As I’m fated to be forever single I’m really glad there are creative authors out there to keep me in romance, even if I only read it instead of live it.
Hey Cheryl…you never know! Fate will find you when you least expect it! (I’m having trouble posting for some reason, I hope this one makes it online! Thanks so much for dropping by today.
I absolutely believe in fate. I met my husband in college in Oklahoma. After we were engaged we started talking about our 2nd choice for colleges had we not gotten into our 1st choice. We both had chosen colleges 30 minutes away from each other in the Boston area! I think we were destined to meet each other.
Hi Stacie! Sounds like fate to me! Thanks for commenting today.
Me, me, me, pick me, pick me!!!
I can’t wait to read this Rebecca! I’m so looking forward to the release party. Hope you know what an inspiration you are.
Asa
Hi Asa! Thanks so much for the kind words! The release party is going to be a good time, I think. I’ll see you there!
Hello Rebecca! I’ve patiently waiting for the release of Fated!
I do believe in fate, I think everyone has multiple fates in store for them and their choices in life guide which fate they will have…make sense?
Hi Susan! Not only does that make sense, I really like how you put it. Very cool.
Congrats on your debut release of FATED.I can’t wait to read it. I love finding new authors
Thanks Carmen! Have a wonderful weekend!
I do because somethings that come around wouldn’d
ror any other reason. Like you going into a store that weren’t planning on. Also picking up a food and it wasn’t on the list
But the one that comes up the most with us is a neibor got given a dog and we told her we would take the dog when she passed away. With in the next week she passed away. She is the most loved dog. Than we had to put our other dog to sleep and she with us to help us go on.
horseunicornkey@aol.com
Hi Patricia! I’m glad your dog is such a blessing! Thanks for dropping by today.
Hmmm… I suppose I believe in fate to some extent. Though I think that often times we make our own. I certainly think it can be changed
The book sounds great !
Hi Robin! I like that fate can be changed…think of all the possibilities. Thanks for commenting!
I can not wait for the release. I have been waiting for this book for a long time.
Congrats lady.
Thanks, Kelly! I feel like it’s been a long time, too.
