A nor'easter is a hurricane with the added fun of snow and freezing temperatures. People call New Englanders "hardy" for a reason. Since I'm a recent transplant, I huddle with my warm mug of coffee and find reasons not to go anywhere.

Hi Lynn! October in the desert? I want to see. And I agree--it's wonderful to write outside. I maybe have a week left of that, then it's writing by a fire inside. That's good too. :)

Oh Jillian - I'm with you! When cute boot weather appears, I'm all smiles. (Then real boot weather appears, and it's not as much fun). :)

Hey Maggie - Happy birthday this month! Do what I do - divide by 10 so you have fewer candles. Works every time! :)

Hi Lisa! I agree about trying on masks. I know I'm a grown-up, but for one night I get to be Wonder Woman. :)

Elizabeth - What a wonderful poem! There's nothing like a clear October day, is there? The sun manages to make an appearance but it's still crisp out there.

Mia - it sounds beautiful where you live! I've never experienced a nor'easter, but I bet it gives you plenty to write about as you're safe inside. :)

I live in New England, where autumn is just short of a religious experience. Mums are defiant little buttons of brightness, hedging the sidewalks near my building and the hillsides will soon blaze with color. They know our bitter nor'easters are coming, but for a brief time, the world dances in glory.

October is my favorite month. I grew up in New England and remember a Robert Frost poem from school that began "Oh hushed October morning mild, thy leaves have ripened into fall" (or something very like that!). I always think of that poem when we have a beautiful high, clear day like today.
