Great post Karen, and unfortunately learning how important the little things are is a lesson that is learned with time. I believe that is why so many marriages fail in the early years. We celebrated 23 years together in May of this year and I know that feeling you are talking about when he comes in the door.

Congratulations on your anniversary, and the release of Falcon Prince. It's on my wish list at BN.

Thanks Susan,

I think marrage is like anything else you do. If you pay attention to the little details and take care of them, everything else will take care of itself.

Great post, Karen. Congratulations on your anniversary and on having found that wonderful guy and still being in love with each other. You are so right about the small things. Yes, leaping in front of a car to save someone is very different than the day to day stuff, and it's the day to day things that make such a huge difference. Being considerate counts for so much. Taking out the trash, fetching a cup of tea or glass of wine, massaging tired shoulders, or saying "You're tired so why don't you have a nice long bath and I'll do the dishes" (oh man, doesn't that just make you moan with bliss?).

Whether a hero is alpha and macho or beta and more laid back, whether he's a firefighter, a cowboy, or a vampire, to me he's no hero unless he's the kind of guy who does those considerate little day to day things.

BTW, my guy and I came home last night from a few days away. I put away the groceries then went to brush my teeth. He noticed a peach lying on the counter that had apparently been there way too long - he said it was growing penicillin - and he actually went downstairs to throw it in the dumpster rather than just heaving it in a garbage bag. OK, that was pretty cool!
