Does anyone remember the old TV show Daktari with Clarence the Cross-eyed lion? A parrot used to ride on his back. When that parrot's owner died (they're so long lived, this happens more often than you might think!) my aunt inherited the bird.

She used to bring it to our family reunions and I'm embarrassed to admit my kids taught it to say "Graham's a dork" just to irritate their cousin! I'm afraid this parrot wasn't cute. It was pretty cantankerous and would nip the kids if they got too close.

My personal menagerie is down to one terrier now. Mack is a puppy mill reject who was going to be destroyed because he was born with a defect that kept him from being sold. It was a surgically correctable problem, so he's all fixed up now and we're so glad to have him. He satisfies all our dogly needs.

A pet doesn't have to be perfect. The "found" ones are the best of all.

HI have to shelties. They sit at my feet while I write....well, at least one does. It's so awesome! Can't imagine life without them, that's for sure.

Just something about the unconditional love.

I have 2 dogs (excuse me, puppies!!) That's what they think they are. If you call them a dog they will not answer - if you say come on puppies, they are all over you!! They definitely rule my house. And, I talk to them all the time, just like they were people!! Look forward to reading your books - they sound awesome.
