Welcome to my first Brava post!  My debut book FATED will be published by Kensington in winter of 2011.  Of course I’m very excited and have told my entire town about the sale.  By day I’m a lawyer and I’ve received some interesting reactions to my news.  One older male colleague smiled and said, “I heard you sold a book.”

I gave a barely humble nod.  “Three books, actually.”

He perched his glasses up his nose, reading a file as he answered.  “That’s fantastic.  About the law?”

I glanced at the case he was reading.  Good case.  “Um, no.  These are fiction.”

He looked up and squinted.  “Fiction???  Wow, that’s great.  Legal thrillers, huh?”  He pursed his lips in thought – was he in the book?

He was not in the book.  I hoped he didn’t ask.  “Um, no.  The books are about vampires and shifters.”

“Vampires?”  My colleague coughed.  “Oh.  I er, well… I thought you seemed rather conservative.”

“Conservative girls love vampires.”  It’s a fact.  Just ask around.

“Ah.”  Clever lawyer grin from colleague here.  “Well, aren’t most lawyers actually vampires?”

Return grin from me.  “No.  The vampires are the GOOD guys.”  Haha.

Seriously…why vampires?  Okay.  There’s the already nicely debated Brava fact in previous posts that vampires are HOT.  Dangerous, sexy bad-boys fighting their baser nature to be good.  Reeeeally good.  So why paranormal stories?

Because the field is wide open.  You can create any world you want.  If you don’t like your vampire having to go out and feed from a myriad of women, make him enjoy a good steak for dinner instead.  Maybe he doesn’t feed to survive.  Do vampires have to be cold-blooded?  Heck no.  The hotter the better.  What I like about paranormal stories is that anything your imagination dreams up could become reality in that world.  Heck.  You could even make the LAWYERS the good guys.

So, what traits do your favorite vampires possess?
