I will be in New Orleans this weekend at Heather Graham’s Writers for New Orleans conference.
My maternal grandmother’s side of the family has been there since before the Louisiana Purchase. So when Heather called in 06 and said she wanted to get people back to NO and spending a little money and would I participate – well, it was irresistible. And boy, do we have a good time. It’s a small conference, around 100 people and informative and entertaining and a good time is had by all.
I am especially looking forward to seeing my cousins who moved back into their house in Metarie in May, a mere 2 ½ years after Katrina. Don’t get me started.
Anyhow, I hope you guys might think of us and maybe join us next Labor Day weekend.
Oh, and Gustav – don’t even think about it.
Have a great holiday, guys.
Kate

Good morning, Kate! I am trying very, very hard not to think about Gustav–cause I’ll be in New Orleans at the conference, too! And it sure does look like the event will be a great deal of fun. I’m looking forward to the tarot card readings on Friday…
I don’t want to think about Gustav either. Or the possiblity of contra-flow traffic Sunday – yikes! But I’m really looking forward to the conference. Hope to see you both there
Hope Gustav heads a different direction. NO doesn’t need another hurricane.
I predict that Gustav wouldn’t dare!
Laissez les bons temps roulez…
Hope y’all have a blast in The Big Easy! Praying that Gustav dies out before it hits land again.
Hope everyone got out with the least amount of hassle! Thanks for comin!
Update from moi
Walked into my apartment in NYC at 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, thanks to good luck and good people. I was in NO with Kristine Mills-Noble. Like your Brava covers? She is the creative director who conceives and executes them.
We were at breakfast on Saturday morning at the conference, enjoying a panel discussion with F. Paul Wilson, Cathy Maxwell and Heather, when they announced the hotel was closing. After declining Cynthia Eden’s most kind offer to get us out to Alabama, we grabbed our bags and headed to the airport. Sam, at Continental, got us seats on an afternoon flight to Houston that they had just added. From there we had a flight to Newark. It was painless.
We’ll be back next year if not before,
Kate
So glad that you’re home safe, Kate. As you might know, I dithered about whether to go or not and finally cancelled out before flying down on Thursday night. This won’t keep me from going next year!
Now in the Keys, we prepare to see what Hurricane Hanna and Hurricane Ike decide to do and where.
Mary,
It was short but sweet, kinda like you. I cannot believe the hurricane queue that has formed.
Kate
Kate -
We truly appreciate you coming to New Orleans, even if the hurricane (hotel) chased you away. I know you’ll be back. Until next year.
p.s. I hope F. Paul Wilson comes back too, he is great!
