Down here, in what I like to think of as the Sweltering Center of the South, the temperatures are topping out in the triple digits (I think it was 115 yesterday with the heat index–and seriously, that sucks). When it’s this hot, the best thing to do is to sit inside, enjoy the air conditioning, and read a good book.
And, as fate would have it…I have a book to give away today.
(Hmmm…did you see that one coming? Not too subtle, was I?)
I’ve got a fresh, hot-off-the-presses copy of EVERLASTING BAD BOYS that I’d love to give away to a commenter. (EVERLASTING BAD BOYS isn’t scheduled to hit store shelves until the end of August, so this is one of those win it before you can buy it deals!)
Here’s the back cover blurb for EVERLASTING BAD BOYS:
They’re bad boys—with that little something extra. Sexy, wild, out-of-this-world talents that can leave any woman feeling weak at the knees (among other body parts), they’re the ones to call when you want pleasure that lasts…and lasts…
“Can’t Get Enough” by Shelly Laurenston: Even for a dragon, Ailean the Wicked has a bad reputation. For 150 years he’s been renowned for his fighting prowess, but now he’s got a new conquest in mind–a gorgeous dragoness known as Shalin the Innocent. Ailean suspects she’s anything but. And while he’s saving her from her enemies, he plans to prove that, even in human form, a bad-boy dragon can show a girl a good time that’s truly off the scale.
“Spellbound” by Cynthia Eden: No witch in her right mind would summon an immortal soul-hunter to her aid, but Serena Tyme needs Luis D’Amil’s help to destroy the warlock who’s stalking her coven. And she’s willing to pay any price he names…especially when the tall, dark, sexy-as-hell assassin shows her he can work some sensual magic of his own.
“Turn Me On” by Noelle Mack: Finally, Beth Danforth has found a man who can flip her switch. That’s because supersexy Justin Watts, CEO of SpectraSign, is literally made of light. His dazzling, custom-built body can’t ever wear out. And talk about energy–Beth can’t get enough of the guy. The sex is electrifying. The love will never fade away…

On a hot day, I hit the movie theater and soak up the air conditioning while watching a good movie.
I love to read under a fan. It is so hot in TN right now that you have to sit under a fan even with the a/c running.
I completely understand about the south yesterday it was triple digits here in Alabama too. I love to either curl in my recliner in the house under the ac and read a hot steamy book or lay out by the pool reading a book and then taking dip when I need to cool off. Or if it isn’t real hot then I will take the kiddos to the theater but darn it that hour drive isn’t worth the trouble most of the time. lol.
Hey Shelley!
As we like to say here in Jaw-ja…”Lord, hunny! It is hotter than nine miles of hell!”
It is raining here and extremely humid.
I love the beach. LOVE it! That is my favorite summertime activity, ever!
It combines three of my favorite things to do:
Listen to the ocean
Read
Sip a boat drink under a big umbrella on a lounge chair.
It just don’r get no better than that!
Oh, I love sitting here staring at the blank screen in front of me thinking - sort of - of all the great scenes I could be writing but just can’t seem to get from my brain to the keyboard. And I think of all the housework I really should be doing only to decide it’s time to play another round of Yahtzee with my kids.
And, anyway, I really am sort of writing and cleaning while playing Yahtzee, because I’m thinking about it. That’s planning, right? Right?
Oh. Well, who cares anyway? It’s summer.
Oh good one, Cheryl. If I can’t take off for the beach, I love spending a couple of hours in a cool movie theater, with my popcorn and soda.
Hi Shelley,
I spend most of my summer reading in the house with the air condition going.
Hehe - I think there’s some confusion on the blog. Well, my favorite thing about summer used to be NO CLASSES. But for the first time in my life I’m taking summer classes. (And the last possible opportunity too.) Although considering all my years in school I guess I was due.
Otherwise, reading, relaxing, sitting outside and eating a bowl of ice cream.
Unfortunately, I have nothing extremely original to say, because on hot days, I also like to sit in the aircon, read and eat icecream! Stay cool everyone!
I love barbecuing and going to the movies in the summer.
My favorite summertime activity is going to see the summer blockblusters. Reading is also on the top of the list.
Hi Cynthia! My favorite activity of Summer is staying inside and enjoying the AC while I read! (And I hear you on the sweltering temps, here in SC it’s been pretty rough this week.)
Hi, Cheryl! Oh, you’ve just described one of my favorite summertime activities. I love going to the theater.
Liza, I feel your pain.
Pamk–you’ve just given me pool envy! A swim would be great right now.
Angie-la–love that saying!
Hey, Cathy! A few years ago–when Katrina hit–we were without power for about 2 weeks. I was pregnant at the time and miserably hot. Luckily, the theater had power. So I spent my days watching flick after flick and soaking up all that sweet AC.
Susan–you just can’t beat good AC!
LOL, limcello. I think Shelley’s blurb and name on the cover have thrown ‘em. Hope your classes are going well–and now you’ve got me craving ice cream!
Hey, Barb–forget original–sounds like a great plant to me!
Cherie, I’ll be barbecuing tonight (weather permitting). Love to barbecue in the summer.
Hi, Jane! I’ve been trying to catch a new movie each weekend. So far, I haven’t been disappointed.
Hey, Brandy! How are you? Hope you keep staying cool!
Thanks for all the comments!!
Whoops, sorry for the typos in that last post! I’ll blame ‘em on the heat!
Limecello–not limcello–grr! Sorry!
I love to curl up with a good book on my covered back deck.
There’s nothing we love better about hot summer days than lots of fresh cold summer fruit! Mmm…! (Well, that and a good book, of course!) (Don’t enter me–I LOVED the ARC version of this. Someone’s in for an awesome summer treat!)
Tonight is the first night of the HSBC Celebration of Lights, which is a four day fireworks competition. I look forward to this event spread over two weeks as my high point in summer.
Even the struggle to get down to the beach and the 4 plus hour wait (not to mention the horrendous struggle to get home with hundreds of thousands of other participants also trying to get home afterwards) will deter me from being there to watch a 25 minute show of light and sound. It’s an awesome event!
Swimming and reading.
I enjoy reading, going to movies, and spending time with my family…although to be honest these are my favorites all through the year.
Everlasting Bad Boys looks great!
Hi Cynthia!! So loved your story in Everlasting Bad Boys and too in HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT. That was so much a unique read. Its on the keepers shelf! Each time I see your name, I think about the books I read of yours!
This summer has been so much different, I think mostly because of it being so much hotter here thats not what its usually like. I loved to go out in the backyard in the screened in tent and just feel the breeze while reading. Keeps the bees away from me! I do go out some in the evening when my hubby is home and cooks on the grill or later in the evening for us to just sit out and watch all that happens out in our neighborhood. I’m looking forward to when I can do our long walks in the evenings. That was a summertime evening activity my hubby and I did a few nights a week, looking at the older houses and just walking hand and hand, even after 25 years. So love those summer nights!
Growing up, my entire was spent at the beach. Now I go once and while even though I’m less than 10 minutes away. My favorite summer activity now is going to the movies. I will go and buy 2 or 3 tickets and just make a day of it. Now that’s a good time.
My favorite summertime activity is bike riding and going to the lake.
Laying in the sun. When winter gets here I think I’m going to start going to the tanning bed. I’m one of those people that needs the sunlight.
Lying on a raft in a pool with an iced cappacino while reading a book!
I love to be at the beach in the summer, relaxing and reading, listening to the sound of the surf, going to outdoor fairs, festivals and concerts.
