Hard to believe Monday arrived so fast. I am one of those people who believes Mondays should be renamed. I mean really, doesn’t the word “Monday” just make you cringe?
Well, perhaps it’s because I have a full-time job in addition to my writing career – when Monday rolls around it means back to the “real world” and leave the writing behind until that evening. I was going like gangbusters this weekend on Micah’s story (my July ’09 Brava release) and got 6K written.
But alas, I am here in the real world in my Clark Kent suit. *sigh*
Anybody else have a Monday dislike phobia or is it just me? LOL – maybe I shouldn’t ask that question!
People often ask me how I balance my writing with my life and I tell them very carefully. It’s a fine path to traverse and I often find myself torn between deadlines and my family. Of course, family always comes first (you’re not reading this, are you Kate?) and that sometimes puts me behind.
Then of course, I have to lock myself in the writing cave to meet the deadline I had to ignore in the first place. I know the writers out there are nodding their heads.
Coping strategies are always welcome – tips, tricks and perhaps a magic spell or two as well. If you’ve got them, bring ‘em on y’all. I need to find a better balance before I fall off and hurt myself.
Mondays always seem so stressful, getting back into the week routine. My only coping skill is to take Monday one hour at a time. *G*
I’m ok with most Mondays, but I was on vacation most of last week, so it was really hard to get up and go to work this morning.

I am retired, so Mondays are just another day to me.
I am reading this, my sweet. But I agree with your priorities, of course. Just because I devote my every waking moment to romance publishing doesn’t mean that I advocate it for others. Kidding.
I like Mondays for the following reasons. The news stand downstairs makes better coffee than I do. We have no meetings on Monday. I do like my job.
I had a job once (OK more than once) where I was despondent on Sunday nights at the prospect of having to go to work on Monday morning. I find it very hard to forget that.

Kate ~ Okay, I knew you’d read this. LOL. Mondays do sound not too shabby for you. For me, yesterday was hellacious at work with a nearly 12 hour day from the time I left home until I got back. Blech.
I look forward to the day when I can wake up and commute to the kitchen for coffee and my laptop to write.
Hi Beth, I have the day job as well and given that time management and I are only passing acquaintances, I seem to always be in a rush. I have found that chopping up onions, veggies, and such on the weekend cuts down on the work I have to do once I’m home from work during the week. Hubby works the 2nd shift so I have the blessed few hours of quiet before he arrives.
I do some food prep work in the mornings before getting dressed. Be sure to wipe your hands on the stainless steel sink for about a minute so they don’t smell like onions all day. Although this is a proven way to keep coworkers out of your office!
My fave short cut, I also dance while cleaning so I get a small workout at the same time. I’ve only hit the kitchen floor like a bag of flour once in all the years of mopping while shaking my groove thing.
If nothing else helps brighten a Monday, the next day always Tuesday!
Liz ~ With a 12 YO and 16 YO, it’s hard to find time to do anything in the morning before work except make sure they’re off to school or camp or work. It’s usually a madhouse that lasts from 5 am to 7 am. However, I really need to take your advice and get something done in the morning – even if it’s just picking out what’s for dinner.
I love the idea of dancing while cleaning! I think I’ll shake my groove thing (look out world) when cleaning.
I decided awhile back to rename Monday, “Tuesday” I’m just skipping it. Then Tuesday can become “second tuesday” But the world did not get my memo and put it into effect.

This is going to sound obscene but I miss Mondays.
I know they were sucky when I was stuck in the 7th layer. (Aka my old 9 to 5. Seriously, I bet satan probably chatised my old company a time or two for being too evil.)
The saying you don’t miss something until it’s gone is so true. Half the time I don’t know what day it is, so Mondays now come and go unnoticed.

Emma ~ I will try to understand, but it’s hard. LOL. Mondays are just not on my good list, however, I’m glad I don’t work for your old 9 to 5 – yikes!
