Junk Mail

Waving Hi,
I love having a new book out. I love holding it in my hands, running my fingers lightly over the cover—yes, I’m obsessed or maybe that’s possessed. Actually, I love all books. Fiction, non-fiction, junk mail–okay, maybe not junk mail.

Oh, speaking of junk mail, I got something in the mail the other day. A dismal looking yellow envelope and in big bold letters it had YOU CAN GET PUBLISHED. I put a couple of my bookmarks in the no postage required envelope and sent it back to them. Revenge is sweet.

But then I started thinking….

You got it. If I get junk mail, then I’ll very politely say no thanks, and send them a bookmark. Mass publicity. Too cool. I love my life.

The Bad Boys Guide To The Galaxy is out—yea! I’m having a really cool contest for my newsletter group so drop by and join if you get the chance. Yes I went shopping, but I’m not going to say where.

I thought you might enjoy the opening of my synopsis for The Bad Boys Guide To The Galay. This is what I sent my editor:

Nerak is the perfect planet—sort of. First and foremost there are no men, only companion units. They vibrate and they don’t talk back—well, unless you give them an attitude chip.

The weather is perfect—every day. Day in and day out.

And there is no sickness.

Well, there wasn’t until Lara’s cousin’s spacecraft returned with earth aliens on board and one of them became ill. Now one of the Elders is infected and Lara, who is a healer except she never gets to heal anyone because no one ever gets sick on Nerak, has to go to Earth and find a cure for this ailment before the leader of her planet succumbs to this strange malady.
Except she’s not a good traveler.

But she does find her sister…and Sam. Her first real man. She’d like to explore him, for purely scientific reasons, but he doesn’t want to cooperate—yet. Her sister, Kia, talks Sam into offering the use of his cabin, which has access to many plants that she can test for a possible cure.

When Sam reluctantly offers to stay with her so she doesn’t come to any harm, even better. She should have plenty of time to explore earth…and Sam…and find a cure.

Have a fantastic day!

Love the synopsis, no wonder your editor loved it. This is a really great book.

As for junk mail, I get a ton of it as well. Both in my mailbox and in my cyber mailbox. I love how you handle it. And at that same time it is good marketing.

Hope you have a great day. Hugs

Had to come over and say hi! **waving**

The Bad Boys Guide To The Galaxy is going to rock! I love this series and have to say the covers are all really nice for each of the books.

The idea of putting a bookmark in the junk mail is brilliant. Only, I wish I could see their faces when they open the envelope.

All the best with your latest release!

  3. Donna Michaels Says:

    Hi Karen,

Super idea about the junk mail. Next time I get some I’m going to give it the KK touch. hehe

WOohoooooooo  Number 3 is out!!! I look forward to experiencing Sam the Nerak way.

I think it’s hilarious that you sent them bookmarks! *G*

    Have a great day!

  5. Estella Says:

Great idea about the junk mail. I just stick the junk mail back in their postage paid envlope and mail it back to them, minus the part with my name and address on it.
    The synopsis is great!

  6. Fedora Says:

Very clever response to your junk mail, Karen! I’m pretty sure we’ve opted out as much as we could and it still shows up sometimes! And I definitely enjoyed your synopsis!

  7. Zoe Winters Says:

hahaha this book sounds awesome. I love the “exploring sam, purely for scientific reasons” hahahahaha. Nice. You know we all joke about life would be much simpler if men just vibrated and didn’t talk back, but I think we’d miss them. And lovely about sending your bookmarks back. That’s totally going on my: “If I ever get to be a published author” list (sort of like the “If I ever become a vampire” or the “If I ever become an evil overlord” lists)

  8. Karen Kelley Says:

    HI Y’all,
Wouldn’t you know it, no junk mail today. But there’s always tomorrow wa-ha-ha!

Their own junk mail! ROTFLMAO!!!! Brilliant idea  I’m going to do that too!

I’m glad y’all enjoyed the first part of my synopsis for The Bad Boys Guide To The Galaxy. I hope you enjoy the book just as much.
    Hugs,
    Karen

  9. Fancy Says:

Great idea of getting revenge with the junk mail! I usually just throw them away without looking at it much.

As for The Bad Boys Guide To The Galaxy, I totally enjoyed it. Wish there’s more!
