Yes, I, whose very apartment has been labeled the Bermuda Triangle of Technology, have embraced a little device called the kindle. I took six manuscripts home last weekend on my 3.5 oz. kindle.
I talk to it. I praise it. I call recharging the batteries – feeding the kindle. It goes everywhere with me. People start conversations with me on the bus about it and they all want to hold it. So, I reluctantly let them even though I know they are probably riddled with the plague.
Replace books? I don’t think so. Replace pounds of paper – you betcha. Plus the added blessing of knowing I will never be without something to read no matter where I am.
I was on the train once from Washington to NYC and I started to run out of book just north of Philadelphia. Really not good.
So one evening, there’s this woman on the bus who says the usual, “Is that the kindle? Do you like it? Can I hold it?” and I cooperated. Then she hands it back, looks at me pityingly and says, “This would never work for me, I am a Book Person.”
You and me both, doll face. And the kindle is a Book Person’s friend.

I want to hold it, too.
I hear you! I went with the Sony Reader instead of the Kindle, and I am absolutely loving the ease and convenience. It goes everywhere with me now; I even carry it from one end of the house to the other if it isn’t on the charger.
My dad got an eyeful when he saw the books I had on there, I have to admit
And so you shall, my sweet. When we see each other in March.
You got a KINDLE, Kate? Isn’t that the First Horseman of the Apocalypse?
Ann
Ahh, a new relationship kindles.
Now I feel as if I have to get one…
Die kindle ist eine fine addition to any schloss.
I like my kindle mit shlag.
“I go to the kindle when my heart is weary…”

You are not alone since the item appears to be sold out at Amazon. Good thing I’m a patient person…

I love mine, too. I love the instant gratification of it (”Hmm, does {insert name here} have a new book out? Let’s check. Oh, yes.” CLICK BUTTON. READ BOOK).
I have to say, I’m one of those people whose first question now is, “Can I get it in download?” If the answer is no, I say, “I’ll wait, thanks.” Unlike those who say, “Is it in print? Oh, no? I’ll wait, thanks.”
Can I pet it, please, if I promise not to abscond with it? Pretty please with cream and sugar?
Diane, who eternally lusts for new technology
Diane,
The kindle would be honored.

Imagine mistaking Kate Duffy for “not a book person.”
My Kindle is apparently on permanent back-order along with my son’s Nintendo-DS, according to my poor husband who handed out catalog pictures of each for Christmas—
sigh.
I kinda want to wait and see if they’re worth the cost.
Well, time to take the kindle home. Thanks, you guys, for withstanding my kindlemania. And Ann Christopher, you wee darling, BE NOT AFRAID.
Kate
Hey Kate
Whats a Kindle, we sure don’t have them “downunder”
Rosemary,
It’s an ebook reader from Amazon but the real nifty thing is that I can put manuscripts on it. You are going to love it! Looking forward to seeing you and having you hang at my apartment. I believe there will much chat and several frosty beverages. Just a thought.
Kate
This made me laugh because I recently discovered I had not one but 3 books available at Amazon. I excitedly emailed my very good friend and told him. He in turn excitedly mailed me back saying “I bet they’re kindle edition aren’t they?”
I said “Yes they are.” Very pleased he knew what the heck I was talking about.
He emails me back a few minutes later and I swear I heard the audible sigh as I opened the mail and read. “I bet you have no idea what that means, do you?”
LOL I didn’t but I have since learned and now I can’t wait to get one of my very own.
Thanks Kate
Hmmmm I may just have to get one of those for myself.
Also looking forward to hanging at your place. A few glasses of white will be consummed I am sure.
Rosemary
