An Early Christmas

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007
HelenKay Dimon Icon

I just started writing a Brava Christmas novella. This one comes out in an anthology called TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT next October (Oct. ’08). My anthology buddies in this one are Donna Kauffman and Jill Shalvis. And, really, how lucky am I to be teamed up with those two talented ladies?

Anthologies have always been some of my favorite reading. I find new authors. Get a taste of writing styles. Connect with old favorites. Basically, I love anthologies. Despite that, I don’t remember reading all that many holiday-themed anthologies. Not sure why since they seem like so much fun. I love Christmas. Love anthologies. Seems like a natural pair, doesn’t it? Even stranger is that I don’t remember reading all that many holiday novels (non-anthologies) either.

The November releases are coming out. December releases will be out soon. With the holidays right around the corner, are there antholgies and novels with holiday themes that you’re looking forward to reading? If so, what are they and why these novels/anthologies over other releases?

Let me know your thoughts and you’ll be entered to win a $15.00 Amazon gift certificate. Just think, you tell us all about some titles and you have a chance to win a prize that lets you buy one or two!

Welcome Charlotte Mede!

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Explosive A big Brava Author’s welcome to our newest blogger, Charlotte Mede. Be sure to mark your calendars for the release of Charlotte’s first Brava, Explosive which goes on sale January 2nd!!

Due to technical difficulties – meaning Jamie didn’t off her big fat rump fast enough to set up Charlotte up to post her blog herself – I’m posting Charlotte’s blog for her today.

So, without further excuses from moi, take it away Charlotte…

I’m going to come clean right off and confess that I’m a blog virgin. Never blogged before in my life. Until today. So thank you for the opportunity Brava Authors. I’ll try to be interesting and provocative and get everybody’s juices flowing.

First off, who’s out there? Why are you here? And why are you blogging rather than reading a great Brava romance? Why am I asking? Because I’m worried and because I keep hearing that reading is dying – what with everybody multi-tasking in cyberspace, pointing and clicking and downloading. Even movie people are concerned, convinced that fewer people than ever have the staying power to sit through a ninety-minute film. Ditto reading which seems so last century, taking heaps of our time when we have less and less of it.

So what do you think – is the future of the book the blurb?

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Monday, November 5th, 2007

It turned cold over night here. I made a chilly run down to the end of the driveway to get the paper, then hurried through windshield scraping while the car heater struggled to pump out warm air. Now I’m back at the computer, feeling toasty and writing about summer.

I started this new book in August when the livin’ was easy, but had to lay it aside to do copy editing and proofing of another book. Now I’m two thirds of the way through a new action adventure story that takes place in the Hamptons in July. (For you landlubbers, The Hamptons have the best beaches in Long Island.)

So this morning I’m writing about a midnight clam bake that goes really wrong. Never invite a psychopath to a cookout. My heroine is wearing short shorts and a tank top, I’m wearing jeans, two sweaters and my furry UGGs.

That’s the great thing about fiction. It can take you where ever you want to go. What do you like to read when it’s cold outside?

The One With The Book Giveaway

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

My closet is once again out of control. Between my, ahem, slipper problem (I have way too many pairs, some bunny slippers, some Disney character slippers, some down slippers . . . you get the picture) and then there’s all the books in there, and that combined with my little disorganizational problem . . . well, you can imagine. I’d take a picture but it’s too embarrassing.

So I’m once again divulging myself of some books. I have three ARCs left of STRONG AND SEXY, which comes out in late December. I’m going to put up an excerpt here, and if you’re interested, post a comment and you’re in the running. Oh, and also? I want to hear what you’re all reading. I’m in the middle of Tangled Up In You, by Rachel Gibson, and am hooked, which was desperately needed.

And if you’re not reading, we can talk about my second great love, TV. What are you watching? Besides the usuals (House, Heroes, Extreme Home Makeover, Grey’s, Las Vegas, et al), I’m totally and completely gone over Dirty Sexy Money this season. Anyone else??

Okay now as promised, the excerpt for:

Excerpt:
“I saw the mistletoe,” she rushed to explain. “It’s everywhere. And people were kissing. And I couldn’t get kissing off my mind . . . God. Forget it, okay? Just forget me.” She took a step back, but because this was her, she tripped over something on the floor behind her. She’d have fallen to her ass if he hadn’t held her upright. “Thanks,” she managed. “But I need to go now. I really need to go—“

He put a finger to her lips.

Right. Stop talking. Good idea.

His eyes, still hot, and also a little amused – yeah, because that’s what she wanted to see in a man’s eyes after she’d tried to seduce him, amusement — locked onto hers. She couldn’t look away. There was just something about the way he was taking her in, as if he could see so much more than she’d intended him to. “Seriously. I’ve—“

He turned away.

Okaaaay . . . “Got to go.”

But he was rustling through one of the shelves. Then he bent to look lower and she tried not to look at his butt. She failed, of course. “Um, yeah. So I’ll see you around.” Or not. Hopefully not—

“Got it.” Straightening, he revealed what he held – a sprig of Mistletoe.

“Oh,” she breathed. Her heart skipped a beat, then raced, beating so loud and hard she couldn’t hear anything but the blood pumping through her veins.

His mouth quirked slightly, but his eyes held hers, and in them wasn’t amusement so much as . . .

Pure staggering heat.

“Did you change your mind?” he asked.

Was he kidding? “No.”

With a smile that turned her bones to mush, he raised his arm so that the mistletoe was above their heads.

Oh, God.

“Your move,” he whispered.

She looked at his mouth, her own tingling in anticipation. “Maybe you could . . .”

“Oh, no. I’m not taking advantage of a woman in a closet, drenched in champagne.” He smiled. “But if she wanted to take advantage of me, now see, that’s a different story entirely.”

He was teasing her, his eyes lit with mischievousness, and a wicked, wicked intent.

“I’m a klutz,” she whispered. “I might hurt you by accident.”

“I’ll take my chances.”

She laughed. She couldn’t help it. She laughed, and he closed his eyes and puckered up, making her laugh some more, making it okay for her to lean in . . .

And kiss him.

UPDATE:
I had my youngest daughter draw numbers and then I counted down to find the winners. Thanks for playing, I really enjoyed hearing what everyone is reading! The winners are Stacy, JackieToo, and Jane Squires. Please email me from my website with your address!
