While I’m not planning to load up the SUV and trek to the beach this week, I know thousands of other folks will be making that journey.
Ah, sun, sand, and nice, cold water.
Gotta love the beach.
Especially if you’ve got a great, big umbrella to shade you and an entertaining book to read as you relax on that beautiful, white sand.
So I’d like to know…what book has been your absolute best beach read? One that you couldn’t put down, even when you felt your skin start to prickle from the sun’s harsh rays?
I’ll pick one commenter at random on Thursday (that way, it’ll give folks a chance to post) and that person will receive a $15 Amazon gift certificate. (So you can purchase your next beach read!)
Update! Congratulations to Kim H! Kim, you’re the winner of the $15 Amazon gift certificate.
Thanks for all the wonderful answers!

I admit, I don’t read in public well - I’m too easily distracted by people, by noise, whatever. I do think though, if I did, a Brava would be there in my beachbag - most notably “Perfect Kisses” by Sylvia Day, Susan Johnson and Noelle Mack. It definitely had me hooked.
It’s okay if my non-beach reading doesn’t qualify - I like my cozy bed where I’m all propped up with a drink of choice and maybe some chocolate *g*
My favorite summertime reads are anthologies when I’m at the beach. My favorites are the Bad Boy ones like I Brake for Bad Boys and I Love Bad Boys. There’s more and I’ve really enjoyed everyone of them.
There have been a lot of them over the years, the most recent Barbara Dawson Smith’s COUNTESS CONFIDENTIAL.
I too usually like to read in bed as I am not an “outdoors” type of gal. When we do go to the beach, I pretty much stock up on magazines that I want to catch up on. If I were looking to take a book with me though, it would probably be “Perfect Kisses”….
I won’t be doing any reading by the beach, but I will be reading just abuot every where I go. I happen to love reading and I take a book with me all the time. You will always find me with a book. Reading in public doesn’t bother me as long as I can tune them out if they happen to get too loud.I plan on reading this summer Johanna Lindsey ~ Captive Of My Desires, Lynn Kurland ~ Star Of The Morning, Bertrice Small ~ A Dangerous Love, Sylvia Day ~ Bad Boys Ahoy! Plus several others I have in my TBR pile and in my TBB list.

I have a hard time to read in a public place, because of all the distractions. My best place to read is in my bed or the recliner. I find that in the summer I am most likely to read anthologies, since I can read a story from start to finish quickly. One of the ones I want to get is Perfect Kisses, but I also want to get Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy. My trouble is so many books and so little time.
Forbidden Pleasures by Lora Leigh
Hidden Agenda by Lora Leigh
Surf’s Up by Nina Bangs, MaryJanice Davidson, and Janelle Denison
THE BEACH ALIBI by Alison Kent
I don’t read at the beach either, nor do I like the hot sun, but these books are perfect for a beach read!
20 Times a Lady by Karyn Bosnak
How I Stole Her Husband by Liz Ireland
Death by Chick Lit by Lynn Harris
Any books by Lora Leigh, I have trouble putting down.
I couldn’t stop reading Lucy Monroe’s 3 books right away…1) Ready 2) Willing 3) and Able
It was actually a book set in the winter!
“Comfort and Joy” by Kristin Hannah. I could not put it down. The story just grabbed me. That was day one.
Then it was Cherry Adair’s “Edge of Danger” and Edge of Darkness” for days two through four.
Then I had to come home… *sigh*
I love to sit under an umbrella and read at the beach.
Lori Foster’s book called the Winston Brothers…I loved those guys.
Great answers–keep ‘em coming! I’m creating a new TBR list as I read these responses!
It was a Carly Phillips book but I don’t remember which one. I think all of them would be great on the beach.
I don’t go to the beach, but my favorite book so far is Shadow Hawk by Jill Shalvis. So much so I’ve read it twice!
*sniff* I don’t have a favorite beach read because it’s been over 15 some odd years since I’ve been to a beach! LOL
Oh geez, this is a tough one because thinking of the books I’ve liked, it could be any. . . but I’d go with something funny. It just seems like if I can actually get myself to read while at the beach, a funnier book seems to fit. But I might have a problem trying to decide what that would be out of all that I’ve read!

Sorry for the double, it appeared it wasn’t liking the post, but obviously it actually did. LOL

I would have to say my favorite summer read so far has been Jacob by JacQuelyn Frank. It was so good I read it in a couple of hours. It was really hard to put down.
I like to read the current month’s Silhouette Desires and Harlequin Presents when I am enjoying the beach.
I don’t visit the beach, even under an umbrella I manage to sunburn. BUT, As I sit in my air conditioned (Gotta love air condtioning! Especially when you live in the South like I do!) Code Name: Bikini by Christina Skye, Don’t Talk Back to Your Vampire by Michele Bardsley and My Sister is a Werewolf by Kathy Love!
If there was one book to guranantee sunburn at the beach, I would have to recommend Passion by Lisa Valdez or JR Ward’s BDB series! I just finished Lover Revealed and I loved it.
The Raintree trilogy is a great read. Hope there is more. Also The Arrangement by Suzanne Forster is definitely a captivating read. Allison Brennan’s books will make you completely forget where you are.
A tie between Sherryl Woods - Feels Like Family - 3rd in the Sweet Magnolias and Kristin Hannah - Home Again - Great Story - real tearjerker - a definite recommend.
any book by leslie kelly
shes no angel by leslie
taken by tori carringtion
The Italian Doctor’s Bride by Margaret McDonagh
Somebody to Love by Kate Rothwell
Hands On by Amie Stuart
Janelle Denison - Wild series books are great.
Lori Foster, Causing Havoc
I love reading on the beach. We’re supposed to go today
ias long as the sun stays up. I had brought Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh one day and eventhough I was with friends and my kids I could not put the book down.I don’t even think I made it into the ocean that day and I usually jump in once before baking.
My favorite read so far has been The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason. Love this series!
I am definitely not a beach reader. I burn very easily and walking on the sand is very difficult, but I love to read.
A few of my favorite authors C.E. Murphy, Nalini Singh, Suzanne Forster - The Arrangement, Patti O’Shea, Robin D. Owens.
I couldn’t put down Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare
Lora Leigh’s newest book Hidden Agenda is a keeper
I can keep reading anything that has a great plot…and usually a suspensful plot!
Oh I love the beach! The sand, sun, water and especially a good book to go along with me when I want to lay in the sun for a while. So far my favorites are,
Getting Rid of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie (I love all her books but this one was my favorite!)
Nerd books by Vicki Lewis Thompson
Any book by Jill Shalvis
The Manny by Holly Peterson
and I want to buy the book,
Surf’s Up by Nina Bangs, MaryJanice Davidson, and Janelle Denison
A Loving Scoundrel by Johanna Lindsey
Velocity by Dean Koontz
To Die For by Linda Howard
Variety is the spice of life.
