Hi All,
I’m sorry I’m late getting this up today. I have a good excuse. I was working on my galleys. For those of you who haven’t heard of the term–I never had until I got published–this is the last proof of the manuscript before it heads to print.
Let’s talk about pressure. I am the last one to read through my book and find typos, grammar issues, continuity problems. Me?? Yikes. So for me, galleys are a grueling process. In fact, I think it’s the hardest part of my job, honestly.
Why? Because I’ve looked at that darned book so many times that my eye just automatically corrects any error–and oops, it remains unnoticed and thus unfixed. Not good.
So I have to go over my galleys very carefully. And then I still worry I missed something. So for you writers, what do you find the hardest part of your job? And readers, what are the strangest errors you have seen in a book?
(And I sure hope it wasn’t in one of mine.)

Nothing too strange. And this is probably weird, but I usually get a kick out of finding typos (I used to proofread in my work). The only time it’s annoyed me is when it was the wrong name and it took me a while to figure out and of course that took me out of the story.
I am not a writer, but a blatant error I saw and cant remember name of the book – but the back blurb had the hero having a son and in the book he had a daughter (or vice versa – dont remember now – read it quite a long time ago). It was terrible as I kept waiting for the child to die and the opposite sex to be born.
I find the hardest thing about writing is finding the time. My life seems to be busier everyday. I try to write at night, but I get so tired that the next day it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Oh well, one day it will come together. As far as finding typos I think it is funny. I don’t really think that the author really controls this, we all overlook mistakes after we have looked at something long enough.
I haven’t found anything too wrong in the books I have read, although I remember reading a story once and this was a few years back when they got the name of the hero wrong for about a chapter. But I kind of thought at the time that the author must have changed the name and somehow this had slipped through. But it didn’t deter from the story, once I figured out who they were talking about…….
Lol… after reading thousands of romance novels over the years that have been published I can say I have seen quite a few issues arise, but my mind typically corrects them. There was one time several years ago that my mind locked down and I didn’t finish the book because the author accidentally had the heroine cry out her brother’s name rather than the hero while they were having their first love scene. I couldn’t help but laugh, but my mind sort of hit the “icky” button and I couldn’t finish it….
