There have been some comments to me about two books a month being too much for a lot of participants to keep up with. So we’re going to taper it down to one Book Club selection a month. Yes, this means only one winner a month as opposed to two, but I understand that schedules and wallets are tight. This will also allow more time for the Canadian winners to receive their books. We’ve had two Canadian winners so far and both had long waits for their books to arrive.
We’ll continue with Katherine O’Neal’s THE ART OF SEDUCTION until the next meeting of the club.
If you’ve read it and would like to comment on it, please do. Also I’d love to hear your recommendations for next month’s book — genre, anthology or not, etc.
Questions to keep in mind while reading:

I am in the middle of the book right now…I wasn’t sure what day we would be discussing it. So far it is okay.
My favorite scene so far is the opening scene in the prologue…very descriptive…Paris is a beautiful setting.
My favorite line so far has been: “The rain as it lashedher seemed the outward manifestation of the tears she wouldn’t allow herself to shed, as if the sky itself mourned for her on this night when all her hopes and dreams had come to nothing (p. 1).”
These could change as I read more of the book…so I may have a different response later.
As for the next book…we haven’t read a parnormal yet…don’t know how many there are in Brava though…or another contemporary would be fun since this time we did a historical. When is the next book club post?
And I agree that maybe once a month is better…gives us time to find the books if we don’t have them…especially the older releases we may choose.
I agree that the book club should be once a month. That way we have a chance to get the book through the mail, if we can’t get it directly at the store and have to order it.
I have read The Art of Seduction, and enjoyed it. I am not usually one for historical books, but this was an enjoyable read.
I had a few parts that were favourite, but I think that where Mason and Richard are discussing the art being for public view was neat. This would be where Mason says to Richard:
I find it rather strange that on the same day Lugini coins that poignant phrase aobut seing the paintings through tears, people start breadking into sobs in front of them and there just happen to be reporters there to witness the spectacle.
He gave her a mysterious smile.
You paid them to break into tears, didn’t you?
Only the first few. After that, they started doing it on their own. It was contagious. They’re still doing it. I was just there. It’s something to behold, to see how deeply the painting touch people.
In that scene you can just imagine all these people crying and wailing in front of the paintings, and each one setting the other one off.
As for our next selection I think that Out of This World by Jill Shalvis would touch on the paranormal aspect that Jennifer suggested. Also any of Lucy Monroe’s Mercenary trilogy would be excellent. Or on the lighter side you have Karen Kelley or Dianne Castell. I will go with whatever the rest decide on.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this story, it was an enjoyable read.
I think that the scene where Mason finally tells Hank that she is not her sister Amy is a hoot. Mainly for the reaction that Hank has.
It goes like this:
“Well, don’t just leave me hanging, gal. Fire away.”
She shook of Richard’s cautioning hand and told Hank
“I’m not Mason Caldwell’s sister Amy. I’m Mason Caldwell.”
“Has this filly gone loco on us, son?”
I loved it, I thought it was funny.
I just finished the book after reading all day and as I mentioned above, my fave scenes have changed. I still like the opening scene that set the tone and I like both of the ones mentioned by others, but I also like the scene between Richard and Mason in the catacombs…where he tells her of his past and the reason for his nightmares…very touching…I felt for the little boy that he once was. “The Great Escape” and the train scenes (don’t want to say too much without spoiling it…but those who have read it will probably know what I am referring to) was also interesting and fun.
The story was definitely interesting.
I just got the book this weekend and haven’t started it yet. I will be able to comment in a few days. I agree that once a month is good.
Hi, just a suggestion, and pls correct me if I got the wrong idea about this book club:
I was thinking, if there 2 or 3 books a month to choose from to comment on, maybe more people would be able participate in this book club. If they don’t have book A, they still have book B to fall back on. It may make a mess on the comment section, but the anthology ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT for the previous book club had readers commenting on different stories, so it gave me this idea. The idea of 1 winner could still stay.
Oh I would like to recommend some older books, maybe a wicked women & a bad boy one.
I think it would be great to have more people participate in the book club. Love the idea of a wicked women and you have to love the bad boys………..
How about Out of This World by Jill Shalvis?
Is that a paranormal?
That’s an idea…
What do you all think about that? Too confusing? Or sounds good?
Okay, I think Out of this world is a paranormal due to the fact that the heroine (Rachel Bond) gets super human powers (unless of course seeing through things is normal and I was ripped off )
I think 2 books would be a good idea that way there are 2 options (especially if they were different sub-genres) and if someone isn’t into one genre, the other would work.
Out of This World is what I would call a light paranormal. Not vampire, werewolfs, or shapeshifting, but still an paranormal aspect.
I am okay with the idea of two books, and I don’t think it would be confusing. It could also give the readers in the club a different book to look at depending on which book the members have or can easily obtain. If members happen to have both books or have read one of the books picked, they can do both books or just one depending on how it works for them. If you look at the Anthology that we did - everyone seemed to pick a different story to give their views on, which was interesting……..
We could still have one winner as we have had in the past, the book to be worked out between Sylvia and the winner.
I agree with what others said…I don’t think 2 books would be confusing. It is not much different than what we were doing before by picking 2 books a month…only this way, you can choose to read one of them or both. In responses about the book(s) you choose, just make sure you specify which one you read.
