On one of the author loops I belong to, much conversation has recently been devoted to the purpose and effectiveness of book trailers. I posted a story at my own blog today, about an author putting together a trailer for my April Brava.

I thought it would be fun to share it here, and then hear what you all think about trailers in general. Have you ever bought a book based on a trailer? Have you seen any that you absolutely love? Do they even register on your radar when visiting Websites and MySpace pages, or do you ignore them completely?

Great trailer. I don’t think I have bought a book based on a trailer. Joann Ross has some great trailers on her website. I do play them on websites.

  2. Patty L. Says:

I have never bought a book based on a trailer. I usually watch them if I am on an author site that offers them, but I never intentionally look for them. Your trailer was great. Your hero, hot. I had already put your book on my to be purchased list, so no worries here, I will definitely pick it up.

A great trailer. I watch trailers if they are available on an Author site when I am visiting, I find trailers interesting, but have never bought a book because of viewing a trailer. They are not something that I go looking for in regards to a book because I have already made a must buy list and most times the book is already there, before seeing the trailer.

Alas, trailers aren’t for people who are still on dial up, or scavenger hunts, or nifty new sites with all kinds of things to do and see (sigh).

  5. Brandy Says:

I admit to watching the trailers, and thry do peak my interest. But, I look at a few other factors before buying a book.

    Hi Alison,

my decision to buy a book are based on other factors, like blurb, excerpts, recommendation of friends. I don’t like booktrailers so much.

  7. Kathy from California Says:

I’m also not such a fan because book trailers reduce my ability to construct the perfect hero/heroine in my mind’s eye alone.

Though I gotta admit that the pecs on that man were pretty drool-worthy….
