I’ve lost a lot of reading time this last year due to writing commitments and I miss it. A lot. I was sitting here tonight trying to think of how I can fit reading back into my life, because really, writers have to read. It’s what makes us tick — our love of reading.
So then I came over here to post my bi-monthly blog post and an idea hit me. What if we do a Brava Book Club here on the blog? We’ll pick one Brava release, read it, then check in two weeks later when I come back to blog. Every time I blog I’ll pick one participant to win a copy of the book we’re talking about next time. I’ll ship the book to the winner via Priority Mail, affording plenty of time to read the book before the next blog.
It would be totally informal and (hopefully!) a lot of fun. When we check in, we could answer the following questions:
Favorite line
Favorite scene
Simple, right? Are you game?
If so, we can start this week by picking a book. I’ll be back to blog on Monday, January 22 and we can weigh in on it then. I can also set up a little reminder email. Would you be interested in participating?

I would love to participate. But as a Canadian will I be able to participate (shipping time to Canada)? Oh, please say yes!
I get that they’d be books you’d want to read yourself. But I’d hate it if your books weren’t considered for the book club too. (Maybe you could arrange a guest author to take over when you’re on vacation, so we could include your books in the club.)
Great idea! Bravas are some of my favorite books - count me in.
Yes, definitely Sylvia, your books need to be included.
That’s a cool idea! Count me in!
Count me in!
Me too!
I like the idea. Who doesn’t want to share thoughts on a book? *G*
cool want in
That would be fun! Just let me know which book so I can see if I have it.
Would the books be past releases as well as current releases?
Count me in too
I think that’s a good idea.
Sounds like fun!
Yay!!
This is going to be fun! I’ll get the reminder-thingy hooked up in a bit (it’ll just send a little email when I post a new blog here, so you’ll only get it once every 2 weeks or so.)
Sue — Yes, I’ll ship to Canada.
It will probably be easiest for me to ship through Chapters or Amazon.ca (save me a trip to the post office, too! *g*)
k, we’ll work out a way to talk about my books, too.
In July, I have a Brava anthology with Susan Johnson and Noelle Mack (PERFECT KISSES). I haven’t read the other two stories in it, so that would be a good one!
Jennifer — Yes, past and future. I’m thinking we’ll start out the month with a new release, then finish up the month with an older release. I just hope we can find books that the majority of us haven’t read yet.
What do we want to read first? Contemporary? Historical? Maybe we can start out with THE SEX ON THE BEACH BOOK CLUB (since this is a new book club and that’s a new release), then do an older book on the 22, then read THE ART OF SEDUCTION the first part of February?
Just a suggestion. I’m game for anything.
contemp sounds good
Contemporary sounds good to me as well, I think it will be neat…….especially since you will ship to Canada as well………
Count me in! I just received the book in the mail today so it will be a good excuse to read it first.
Sounds like fun, so count me in too.
What an excellent idea!
Love this idea. Contemporary is great!
K, so we’ll start out with THE SEX ON THE BEACH BOOK CLUB!
Sue A. send me your addy. You are the first book club member to get a book.
If you already have this title, let me know and I’ll put you down to receive a future title that you don’t have yet. (I’ll offer that choice to every winner, just in case.)
To sign up to be reminded to come back on January 22 for our check-in and next book selection, sign up in the form in the post above.
Cool! Congrats Sue!
I just hope I can get the book in time.
You know, when it comes time to read an older release, even if we pick a book many of us have read I think it would be interesting to see other’s fave parts. I love book discussions and look forward to this.
I am so excited. I just received The Sex on the Beach Book Club in the mail from the Brava Book Club. Great suggestion to start. I will start reading it this weekend so that I can be able to comment in two weeks. This is a great idea Sylvia. Kudos.
I’m game…just as long as it’ not a paranormal!!!
I just bought my copy at BN yesterday, so I’m ready to go!
Thank you! Thank you!
I just came back to check for updates on the club and what do I find but a super nice surprise! I’m very hyped-up and raring to get started!
Sylvia,
I just e-mailed you my info. Your website contact page says, “Please note that while she reads all of her e-mail, it may take some time before you receive a response due to deadlines and other writing related commitments.”
So please be on the lookout for an e-mail with this subject:
Sue A. - THE SEX ON THE BEACH BOOK CLUB!
I love the idea of a bookclub! I have been doing a lot of reading lately but it is all boring stuffy academic stuff… nothing fun like brava books:)
This bookclub will give me an excuse to read more brava books!:)
Ooo what a very good idea. This sounds like a wonderful thing to do. Don’t have this book though. What do we do if we don’t have the book? Do we wait for the next chat and we pick a book?
Hi Linda,
If you don’t already own the book, you’ll need to order it online or pick it up at your nearest bookstore.
hugs,
Sylvia
I realize what a dumb question I just answered but then again I wanted to know can we wait for the next book or can we also pick out a book?
Hugssss
Linda.H.
in a chat room?
