We’ve passed into 2007. Happy New Year to all of you and thanks for continuing to stop by and give us your support!! We appreciate it more than you know.
This seems like a good time to chat about contests. More specifically, to remind everyone about the contest opportunities you may be missing here on the Brava website. The contests you sometimes see on this blog are only part of the story. There are two other parts. First, each month we host a contest. Just click on the Contest link on the toolbar. You answer a few questions and…ta-da…are entered to win two free Brava titles. It’s that easy. Second, at random times we hold Author Spotlight contests on the Message Board. Again, you have to answer a few questions, but the prizes are pretty great. So far Brava authors Amy Fetzer, Dianne Castell, Diane Whiteside and now Jamie Denton have generously donated prizes for you to win.
Now, most of you probably know all of that. Here’s the part you might not know (and what my fellow authors don’t know I’m disclosing to you): no one makes the authors donate the prizes. They do it as a thank you to the Brava readers and as a way of introducing Brava titles to new readers. More stuff you don’t know (and they don’t brag about): the authors also step up and donate books to worthy causes. Really, I’m proud to know these ladies.
And me, well, I have the fun job in this process. I get to collect the prizes and stash them in my home until I send them out to the winners. That means I get a sneak peek at upcoming covers and new titles [rubbing hands in glee]. You can almost hear my maniacal laugh, can’t you?
So, in case you didn’t know before, you now know you have numerous opportunities to win books and promo items on the Brava website. My question is this: is this the type of stuff you want to win? What do you guys like to see as prizes…yeah, I’m assuming you guys like prizes. I know I do. Give us some ideas. As a thank you, I’ll pick a name at random from those commenting. That person will win a few covers of upcoming releases and some promo goodies. And, don’t forget to stop by the Message Board and enter Jamie Denton’s Author Spotlight Contest. She’s giving away signed copies of her most recent Brava release, The Matchmaker.

Definitely I love to win stuff from the authors, and usually just enter the ones where it’s a book I’d like to read. Gift cards also work great, too LOL.
I think it’s great that authors do this - writing is not an easy business, and you put a lot of time and effort into it, and it’s still an iffy business - so to reward readers is great. No, I’m not sucking up, just appreciating what you do. Looking forward to all the great books you guys will be writing in the years to come.
I think it’s wonderful of all of you to do the contest. I love winning books from authors that are autographied and anything else they feel relates to the books.

I love to win stuff just like everyone else. Books are always a great prize. Gift cards are also awesome. I appreciate the contests authors have. I have gotten to try new authors by entering and winning some contests, many of whom have become automatic buys for me as a result of me trying their work so those contests do pay off eventually for the authors as well alot of the times.
I love to win especially books books and books.
Another nice thing is Gift Certificates to Amazon etc.

I think it is wonderful of you authors to do contests for readers. I realize that no one makes you do them and I appreciate any prize that you are willing to give. I know that it takes time and money so that makes me even more appreciative. I always love getting signed books, gift cards, and just about anything from an author. It makes me feel special.
It is very special that these authors give these wonderful prizes away. I love the books, of course. You have some great authors here so it’s exciting to have a chance to win one of their books.
I love to read, that’s why I love Brava, and I really love to win books, or gift cards for books. I love it when an author also sends promotional items such as book marks, magnets, etc. I also love when an author takes the time to sign a book for me, it makes it so special. I personally had a wonderful experience with Dianne Castell when I had won a contest through Brava and did not receive my books, I posted on the message board that I had not receive my books and she generously sent me a copy of her new book. I never received the other books, but she really made up for it.
I think it is a very thoughtful thing for Authors to have contests for their readers and a good way to lure in a reader who may be leary of trying an unknown (to the reader) Author. Whatever an Author is willing to have as a contest prize is wonderful, but I have to say books are the BEST!
Books, books, books are usually enough for me. I never forgot the time I was sent a copy of Jingle Bell Rock and I discovered 2-3 new favourite offers.
I love contests and thank all those generous authors out there who hold them.
My favorite prizes are books or gift certificates. I also enjoy receiving coverflats and other promo items. Usually the only contests I don’t enter are those for books I already own or ones giving away coffee and/or tea (either the real stuff or gift cards to Starbucks)… and that’s only because I don’t drink the stuff.
I love winning books. Gift certs to Amazon or B and N are good too.
I enjoy entering contests which feature the author’s books as well as gift cards, teas, since I love tea and book related items. Journals are a great item which I appreciate as well.
I love to win books. As stated before in previous posts gift certificates are nice, or any promotional things, I just think that it is terrific that the Authors give so much of their time here and donate such great books for prizes. The other thing I thank Brava Authors for is that you do not restrict your contests to just the USA, but allow enteries from other places as well. Thank you for doing a terrific job.

I think books are great as prizes. But I admit I like Amazon GCs so I can pick the books. But really I like pretty much all the prizes authors choose to give out. I think authors are a group of generous people with lots of heart.
Love your contests, especially when the prize is one of the newer release books,(mostly because I have read everything else). Gift certifcates are fab, too, heck, whatever you dream up is great. I love it all.
It is simple - BOOKS or gift cards to buy books. We readers really do appreciate these contests. And thank you authors.

Love the books and gift cards and most of the fun things that authors sometime include, except for the cover flats. I once won a 2nd place which consisted of about 30 coverflats, many which were duplicates (13 of 1 of them) and none by the author. I don’t get it - book wins have put many authors on my TBB & TBR lists, but I still have never read anything from the “cover flat” author.
I also love winning books! I’ve found so many new authors that way. I might not have ever read their books and bought more if I hadn’t won one of them. I also love gift certificates so I can buy more books from my favorite authors.
I am floored that so many authors give away their books so generously. It is a wonderful opportunity to win books from our favorite authors. This is also a great way to be introduced to new authors. My opinion is to continue with the fabulous book contests. Anything that the author chooses to put in on the side is a great perk!
If I have to name a few things that I like best would be authors pens, preview book copies (I have received a couple of those), and novelty items, such as mugs, hats, shirts, etc. I have received some of those too.
