Nothing but net…

So, I’m a sports fan. Okay, let me rephrase that. I’m a total jock chick. And November is the Trifecta for me. First I get football (NFL and college.) NBA Basketball is back. AND it’s time for the year-end Masters Tennis tournament for all the marbles. Really, other than March Madness, it doesn’t get better than this for a sports chick.

But that got me to thinking…for a long time, publishers told us author types that sports heroes simply didn’t sell. They guessed women just didn’t dig jocks. I never got this. Are you kidding? What’s not to love? In fact, my very first book was about a football player (because I hadn’t heard “the jock rule” back then and my publisher took pity on the poor newbie…but, since then, the jock rule has stuck, any sports related character of mine has been a former, not current, athlete.

Then along came Susan Elizabeth Phillips and her football guys, and Deirdre Martin with her hockey hunks, and now there’s a whole string of NASCAR heroes…suddenly, athletes aren’t taboo any longer. Yay!

Lucky me, I can finally merge two of my loves together into one. What could be better?

So…tell me, who is your favorite jock hero? And what kind of sports hunk would you love to see get his own story?

I’m an NFL nut, so of course it would have to be someone from that sport - a QB or RB (I can’t really see a 300lb. lineman as a hero *gg*). Troy Aikman was my big crush (no wait - when I was much younger it was a Cowboy player named Charlie Waters - had a gorgeous bare-chested poster! Yowza!) I saw a survey once where it said that most women watch sports to look at the athletes. I have to admit, that’s why I started watching the NFL - loved those tight pants bent over in a huddle. Always wanted to be a center. LOL

    Go Emmitt!

Yes, any sport that has tight end as a position is a go for me. :)

Your NFL season is really long compared to the CFL season here, I am familiar with some of your players especially Troy and Emmitt because of when my son was living at home and following the football.

But my first love is hockey as a sport, probably because it is a long season here for us.

I would love to see sport related stories on Jocks and whether it be Football or Hockey it would still be great.

Give me baseball or football any day of the week and I’m a happy camper. But, I’m more a team fan and don’t really single out individuals to gush over. :)

How about tennis or another non-mainstream sport for a book? But, I’m not picky. Give me any book with a sports theme and I’ll give it a try.

  7. Pat L. Says:

I love baseball. So give me a good baseball hero. I too really enjoyed SEP’s, Deirdre’s and Kate Angell’s (baseball - yay, Kate) heroes. and Pamela Britton Nascar hero esp. in the first book. I loved Michael in Fair Play I think it was by Martin. He was patient and persistant with Theresa.

  8. Stacy ~ Says:

I love hockey! Rachel Gibson wrote a wonderful story called “See Jane Score” and made me fall in love with hockey heroes. As long as they are not missing any teeth LOL.

  9. Patty L Says:

I love sports. The guys make watching it even better. Football is my fav. SEP books are amazing, Deidre Martin’s hockey players made me enjoy hockey. I hope you write a book with a football hero. I am a sucker for any sports related book.

  10. Kathy Says:

NFL all the way, baby. :)

And I’ve got two words for sexy here: Troy Polamolu. Strong safety (even that sounds sexy, eh?), Pittsburg Steelers. Long dark hair, cafe au lait skin, yum, yum, yum. Hubby can’t understand my interest in the Steelers as we live in 49er territory, but I’m here to tell say that sweet Troy would make ME consider a move east.

So, yeah, what’s not to love about a sport that has such tight pants and big shoulder pads?
