Tis the season to go shopping

Yesterday, I ran out to a local fabric and crafts store to buy some Halloween decorations for an event this coming weekend. I walked in the front door to Poinsettias, Angels, and lots of red ribbon. People were lined up at the cashier with artificial wreaths, Santa fabric, and cinnamon potpourri.
I waited my turn and asked the clerk, “Where are the Halloween things?”
Oh,” she said. “Back in the sale section.” She pointed toward the back of the store. I made my way through aisles of calico, polyester and acetate and finally found the orange and black stuff.
And “Voila,” Everything was 40-70% off. And they had everything I needed. And it was still a week before Halloween.
Now I’m an outliner when it comes to writing books. I know the importance of getting my plot points in order. But I do life by the seat of my pants. This is one of the few times I’ve felt like I was being rewarded for being disorganized.
Even so, I found myself wandering through the Christmas section. I didn’t buy anything. I’ll be the one running out a week before Christmas looking for lights.
I wonder what they’ll be getting ready for then?
Do you ever feel like it’s all going too fast? Wouldn’t you like to have time to stop and smell the pumpkins?

I’d love to have time to smell the pumpkins
Life does seem to be flashing before us…it feels like Christmas is just around the corner.

  2. Little Lamb Lost Says:

I love Christmas and don’t mind seeing some of it a bit early. However, I think that I could deal with doing something about that for myself in my home and not forcing the rest of society to face it until after Thanksgiving.

I love Christmas and all my friends tease me about the amount of decorating I do.. (Don’t sit still too long or Angie will hang tinsel on you!) But it irritates me to no end to see Christmas items out in October. Life does move swiftly enough without overlapping the holiday season like that. Lets enjoy each one as it comes around and wait until at least Thanksgiving to haul out the twinkling lights and fake snow!

Everything seems to be so fast now, but when you walk into a store in September, have Halloween on one side of the counter and Christmas being put up on the opposite side of the counter, I feel that it really pushing…….I would like to be able to savour one thing before being pushed into the next. What’s up next, well we won’t even have Christmas behind us before they start on Valentine’s………. :???:

  6. Maureen Says:

I don’t like rushing things. It’s too early for me to worry about Christmas. I am just starting to pick out recipes for Thanksgiving.

  7. Estella Says:

I would prefer not to see Christmas in the stores until AFTER Halloween.

  8. Brandy Says:

It’s just too much! I don’t even let my Dh put up lights for Christmas until Dec.1.
