Picture the Hero!

It’s me again! I’m in a chatty mood, and hope you are too!

When I write a hero I have an idea what he looks, sort of, and I keep that picture in my brain. Some authors even put a picture of the hero of their book over their computer for inspiration as they write. That kind of freaks me out ‘cause I feel like I’m being watched and any minute the guy’s going to say something like “That totally sucks.” Or “I’d never do that, what the hell are you thinking.” Kind of kills the creative moment.
So, when you read a hero do you form a picture of some guy you already know? For example, you’re reading a book and you think, “Hey, I bet that guy looks like McDreamy on Gray’s Anatomy! Or McSteamy…or McVet.” Or “That guy has the same personality of Jason on General Hospital.” (Is that guy ripped or what!)
I’ve had readers send me pictures of hot guys who remind them of my heroes from my books. That’s always fun. I love to see what they think my heroes look like.
The question is, do you have a picture of some guy…not your dh…stashed away?
or you’ve seen a guy on TV or the movies and think “Now that’s what a hero looks like!
What does your hero look like??

I just try to imagine the hero that the author is describing. I don’t want him to remind me of anyone I know personally or someone who is famous.

I too try to go with the author’s description. Of course it depends on whether or not there is a pic on the cover or not. And I do want them to match if there is

    Hi Dianne,
Didnt you get enuf of us???? LOL.

George Clooney would be a nice looking hero.
I too want the cover to depict the description. Really irks me if it does not.

Kind, caring, good looking, a 6 pack and tight buns dont hurt either.

  5. Cryna Says:

When I am reading the story I picture the hero as the Author has written him and don’t usually associate him with someone I have seen, or know.

The heroes that do it for me are the tall ones, dark hair, dark eyes, well built who are kind, caring and trustworth.

Yes, I am the same way as the other girls. I like it when the cover shows the hero of the story. Also, I am irked when the cover doesn’t match the authors description of the hero.

Otherwise I will picture in my mind the author’s description of the hero. I love the dark brown hair, dark brown eyes that turn even darker when they are turned on, with a well built body type of hero.

I usually don’t associate the hero with anyone in particular in the movies or so forth. I just make up my own mental image of him and let it play that way through the story. One thing I don’t like is when the author leaves out a description of the beautiful woman of the story. I do not like not knowing what she looks like. I guess it is one of my pet peeves.

  7. Stacy ~ Says:

Sometimes I do picture someone, like Nathan Kamp, the cover model on a lot of romances, because he has the physical traits I like - dark , wavy hair and brown eyes - but sometimes it varies, depending on the description of the hero.

I think one of the big disadvantages of the cartoon kind of cover is we don’t really get a feel for the characters and it’s fun to see our hero.

  9. Ali Says:

When I begin to read a story, if there’s a picture of the hero on the cover, I’ll start off with that. If that picture differs from the author descriptions to change that image

  10. Dianne Castell Says:

Yeah, and a lot of times the cover art is waaaay off.
    Always fun when that happens.
Brava covers are great. I’ve always been happy with the covers I’ve gotten. The cover has the “feel” of the book…fun and humor inside.
