Is it just me, or will September forever be back-to-school time? Even before I had kids, Labor Day weekend made me itchy to go buy notebooks and new pencils. (Now, of course, I buy them for the boys, but I usually manage to squeeze in a beand-new notebook for me, too.)
It’s a different way of marking the year, I guess. For me, Janury 1 is just the day I have to jog my brain to remember to write a new year on my checks and correspondence. The real start of the new year is the beginning of September.
So I usually make … well, not resolutions exactly, but new goals this time of year. (All those new notebooks and fresh pencils help.) And this year, I want to work on a couple of things. Meeting my deadlines in a more timely manner, for one. But I want to try some new things, too. New recipes, since dinner around here has gotten more boring than watching paint dry. I want to take more pictures, and get a new digital camera. And I want to read more, in some new genres.
Anyone else treating September as a kind of new year? Anything you want to learn, or do, in the coming months?

All I can think about is spending as much time as I can outside before the long winter months set in. All of my chores and the rest of my “to do” list can wait. Fall is my favorite time of year and I love driving around looking at all the trees changing color.
Oooh, good answer. This is the time of year I used to love when I worked in New York — it was perfect for walking because it was cool, and the combination of the weather and the general rush of the city was so invigorating.
Of course, I might not love fall so much if I was the one who had to rake leaves.
Hi Amy,
the next few months will bring some huge changes into my life. Maybe I will go back to university to get an educational degree additional to the Master that I already have. But I am also waiting on the response to an application that I sent to a publisher.
Funny you should mention making changes in your life. Come October we will have a life altering change come into our lives. I am expecting a baby girl. In the meantime I have been trying to organize the house and make things more efficient.
September still seems for me too as the start of a new year. Leading into fall means that I need to get any yard work done and start preping the yard and house for winter(which means increasing the food and book supply:grin: )
Good luck Amy with your submission.
My Daughter is moving into a new condo with her husband so over the next few wks - helping her get it cleaned up.
I want to read more books. LOL. Nothing else much planned.
Sept. marks the end of summer of the beginning cold weather. I love the Spring because it is several mos of lovely weather and longer days.

That’s an awesome change! Congratulations! And I hope you’re feeling good!

That’s a lot of change! Good luck with the application, and yay on school! I’d like to go back (one day) myself.
I used to feel that way about September growing up. We always started school the day after Labor Day. But now, my kids start the second week in August. That is just not the way is supposed to be! August is still summer to me and September always felt like the beginning of a new fall season. It just does not feel that way any longer…..
I have a new job as an assistant D.A. so am looking forward to this new beginning as well.
HI Amy,
ACK I don’t even want to think about this being September! My oldest daughter is just starting her first pre-k class and I can’t believe the stuff they need.
For me September is depressing because it means that fall is going to be coming in and then the dreaded winter. YUCK!

Hi Amy!
One of the nice things about school starting is that we have a set schedule. This year with both my children leaving for high school before 7 now I am starting to walk on the treadmill before I have to get ready for work.
I have no big changes for the coming months. Although I would love to be able to find more time to read, but over the next couple of weeks, I do have to ready the yard for winter……..But I love the fall season, so may put it off for as long as I can.
just to read more and rest more. i don’t have any kids, but the siblings are in school too, that is good.summer go by fast huh. Hi Amy
I always feel that way about both Fall and Spring. I suppose just the changes in the weather and landscape rejuvenate me. I always get motivated at this time of year to try new things. Autumn seems a great time for reading as well. I just love it!
Spring is great because it a time of growth and renewal. Love planting my flowers and not being cooped up in the cold weather. Love only having to wear sandals.
September means winter is coming and I dont like that. I am already counting the days til Spring. Awful, I know.
I plan to spend as much time as I can with my grandson, enjoy my traveling and spending time and outings with my friends.
Congrats, Amy on your upcoming daughter. Is it your first childs? Have you names picked out. This is certainly a wonderful time in your life.
Well right now, we’re having the very first cool weather so I’m very happy about Sept. Of course, it’ll be 95 again before it stays cool. When the weather really changes, then I start getting in the holiday mood.
Best Wishes Amy on the soon to be arrival of your little girl.
I was married almost a year ago in Sept. so Sept. is a great time for me. Dont like the winters, so that is the downside for me - facing the snow and cold.
I am in a wheelchair so I don’t go out often. I miss seeing all the new goods out when the seasons change. I buy most items online. It is not as fun as shopping at the store. I am looking forward to the cooler weather.
I would love to be able to read more.
I would like to travel more.
Fall is a great time for renewal. For travel, new career opportunities and a new, fresh start.
Now that the temps are back in the low 100’s/high 90’s, I’m going to start walking again. I’m just waiting for the new tires for my jogging stroller to get here so I can get going!
I could definitely use some new recipes!! What a great idea! I also go through all the closets and get rid of clothes that have holes, are ragged, or too small. It’s quite a process! I also give away any items that I don’t use but, bought as a good deal!
